2016 Mini-Course Week Wrap Once again we have enjoyed a wonderful Mini-Course Week exploring new places and ideas, making new friends, and getting to know teachers in unexpected new ways. Whether your child climbed a rock wall, sewed an entire quilt, learned dog CPR, made enchiladas from scratch, produced a mini-movie, or became a preschool teacher - just some of the hundreds of mini-course experiences - we hope they explored something different and concluded the week with a sense of accomplishment, pride and fun.
This year our local paper, The Almanac, would like to cover Hillview's mini-course experience through the eyes of the students, by publishing student-written vignettes of their mini-course experiences. If your child has a mini-course moment to share, please encourage him or her to write a personal, detailed paragraph about one stand-out moment from the week. Paragraphs may be edited, and it will be up to The Almanac to determine the final content. Submissions should be sent to minicourse@mpcsd.org by April 15.
Of course, Mini-Course Week could not happen without the tireless volunteer time and energy of so many parents and community members. Whether you served as a Logistics Volunteer, chaperoned a field trip, brought a lesson from your hobby or profession to the classroom, donated supplies, or sent your child off to school each day with an open mind, we appreciate you, we depend on you, and most of all we thank you. There are still many items to be claimed - please look for your loaned items in the small conference room at the Hillview Office.
Hillview Night at the Earthquakes' Avaya Stadium On May 11, come out and support Hillview Middle School at the San Jose Earthquakes game against Houston at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and $5 from every ticket will go towards Hillview Middle School. Come out and show your Hawk Spirit with your friends, family, and fellow Earthquakes! Click here to purchase your tickets using our personal Hillview promo code: hawks.
Hillview Site Council Seeking Parent Nominees
The Hillview Site Council - a group consisting of Hillview's Principal, teachers, staff, student representatives, and elected parents - is the body responsible for developing and monitoring the School Site Plan. This Plan specifies the goals and metrics that drive major decisions on academics, the school environment, social-emotional well-being, technology, and any other significant areas related to the school. The Site Council is also responsible for creating, implementing, and evaluating the annual school survey.
The Hillview Site Council has two open parent positions (out of five regular parent positions) for the two year term from 2016 - 2017 through 2017 - 2018. The council meets approximately once a month after school. All meetings are open to the public.
Interested parents should submit their name, a brief description of their background, and reasons for wanting to serve on the council to Andrea Luskin by tomorrow, Monday, April 11. We will hold an election on Monday, April 18, at 3:30 p.m. in the Hillview front office conference room. Candidates must be present at the meeting. All parents of Hillview students, or of incoming Hillview students for the 2016 - 2017 school year, who are in attendance at the meeting, are eligible to vote.
