California Healthy Kids Survey
Recognized as the leading health data-gathering survey, the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) will be given to all Hillview students on February 8, 2016. Participation is voluntary. A consent form for parents of 6th graders has been sent home with students. 7th and 8th graders will automatically participate unless their parents return a notification and withdrawal form. The consent form, and copies of the survey, in either English or Spanish, are available for review either at the Hillview office or click here.

Lost and Found
Have you lost a jacket, shorts or even a pair of shoes? Maybe a lunch box, water bottle or an umbrella. All of this and MORE MORE MORE is sitting in the Lost and Found inside the Student Center. PLEASE have your child swing by and take a look during brunch or lunch for their lost item. All remaining items will be donated on February 11, 2016 to a local charity.

Protect Our Students: Observe the No Turn on Red Sign at Elder / Santa Cruz
Thank you to the many parents who are driving safely and taking care when navigating in our neighborhood. We have, however, received alarming reports of parents illegally turning right at the Elder / Santa Cruz intersection when students are present. Right turns on red are not permitted when students are present because of the danger they pose to students crossing the street. Please slow down, observe traffic signs and signals, and crosswalks. The Menlo Park Police Department has been alerted to these concerns, and will be monitoring for compliance.

Special Board Meeting to Discuss Potential Parcel Tax
All parents are encouraged to attend a final, special Board meeting tomorrow, Monday, February 1, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. to learn about a possible MPCSD Parcel Tax for the May 2016 ballot. The meeting will take place in the MPCSD TERC building, 181 Encinal Avenue, Atherton. By way of background, following an initial discussion at the Board's November 10, 2015 meeting, Superintendent Ghysels and staff held thirteen informational meetings with parents, staff and the community in December. These informational meetings included Measure C background information, student enrollment data, District's financials and an overview of MPCDS's commitment to excellence. The Board continued its parcel tax discussions on December 8, December 15,and January 11, 2016. At the January 11 Board meeting, Superintendent Ghysels and the Long-Range Planning Ad Hoc Committee continued their discussion with the School Board about possibly renewing and/or increasing a parcel tax as Measure C expires on June 30, 2017.

Permission to Access Digital Teen Collection
Our Teen Collection is going Digital, just in time for February break! If you have already given permission for your 7th or 8th grader to access our Teen collection but would rather they NOT access the Teen eBooks, just email Ms. Piombo or Mrs. Mathenia before February break. 6th graders can access the Teen collection on a case by case basis by getting permission for an individual book, via email or this form. 7th and 8th graders may also use the form if their parents would rather not give them access to the entire Teen collection.

It's Auction Time! We're looking for a few good parties!
Please consider donating parties, events, or experiences for adults to the 2016 MPAEF auction. Organize a bash or an intimate dinner. Donate a Parisian brunch or a yoga workout followed by a healthy breakfast. Love to bake and cook? Get together with your friends and donate a dozen muffins each week for a month, or create a theme party that will have everyone talking. You could teach a knitting class, offer French lessons, or cake decorating - whatever your passion or talent you can be sure someone else would love to learn from you!

Donate an opportunity to inspire, motivate, or entertain our kids!
K.I.T. - Kids in Training: Let's show the kids what we do all day! Don't just bring the kids to work, put them to work. Whether you're an engineer,  scientist, designer, doctor, veterinarian, chef, artist, or public servant, open your doors and call in a lucky student. Teach kids what makes your profession interesting by bringing a few to your office for a few hours or a whole day. Expand their horizons by showing them what you do and how you do it - trust us, they'll love it!

Events and Experiences for Kids: Whether it's fitness, art, cooking, or a once-in-a-lifetime experience, donate a chance for kids to take a break from school work and just be kids! Run the track with moms and dads and finish with a custom smoothie. Toss the pigskin or learn to shoot hoops with a Stanford player. Draw unicorns on sun art paper, organize a scavenger hunt, or take them browsing at the local bookstore followed by lunch -- whatever the idea, just organize it and they will come! Kids playing with kids builds lasting memories, as much for the children as for the adults!

Click here to submit your donation via our online donation form. The deadline is February 11. Thank you in advance for your generosity! We can't wait to see you in April.

- Krista Rosa Brennan, Mary Grundy, Cyndy Hogan and Flavia Herrod, MPAEF Spring Event Auction Co-Chairs
