8th Grade Graduation Party
You are likely aware that the annual 8th Grade Graduation Party is a wonderful celebration for our 8th graders. But you may not be aware that the celebration is funded solely by donations. If you are a parent of a 8th grader and have already made your donation, we greatly appreciate it! We hope to have the support of every 8th grade family that is able to contribute. If you are able to donate and have not yet done so, please click here to make a donation. As the graduation party is open to all 8th Graders regardless of donation, please consider sponsoring an additional child (or two); you can adjust your donation amount using the pull down menu. If you have any questions please feel free to email joelrut@pacbell.net or swaldron@yahoo.com.
Please remind your students about bike safety. A number of our students are unsafe as they ride their bikes to and from school - riding three and four students abreast, not wearing helmets and weaving in and out of traffic on busy streets and in downtown Menlo Park. The Menlo Park Police Department is working with Hillview staff to ensure our students are biking safely and following the rules of the road. Police will be present on our streets during peak student transportation times. Please remember the rules of the road:
- Always wear a helmet.
- Be aware of cars and pedestrians around you.
- Obey all traffic signs and stoplights.
- Ride in the bike lane.
- Ride on the right hand side of the road.
- Ride single file.
Thank you for reminding your children about the importance of biking safely.
Parents Needed for Character Education ClassesOne of the high impact programs at Hillview is Character Education for 7th and 8th graders on topics like Stress Management, Empathy and Communication, and Bullying Prevention. These classes are moderated by parent volunteers and provide a meaningful volunteer opportunity to educate our kids and demonstrate excellent adult role models. We need 45 parent volunteers starting December 9 to make this program a success, so please consider signing up. It's very easy to be a moderator and you will be given a script and instruction in advance. Please read more info here on the sign up sheet.

#GivingTuesday on December 1 - $10 Gift to Support the MPAEF Endowment!
On the first Tuesday of December, global charities, families and businesses come together to support #GivingTuesday: a global day dedicated to giving back and encouraging charitable contributions after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Please join these efforts by making a $10 gift to the MPAEF endowment - a permanent fund intended to support excellent MPCSD teaching in perpetuity. The Endowment grows through donations and investment gains, and the income it generates funds professional development, partnerships, and programs to foster 21st century teaching in our schools. Our goal is to raise $5,000 on next week's #GivingTuesday which will unlock an additional $5,000 of Endowment support from two generous families. So each $1 you donate during the 24-hour campaign will be matched $1 for $1 up to $5,000.
Planned gifts and contributions of all sizes are welcome to help grow the Endowment. Please consider making a tax-deductible gift to the MPAEF Endowment for Excellence in Teaching today. To make a donation, click here.
