iPad Collection: On Wednesday, June 3, we collected iPads and accessories from 8th graders. 6th graders will return their devices and accessories on Monday, June 8. 7th graders will be the final group to have their iPads collected on Tuesday, June 9 during science classess. The following items will be collected during the return:

  • iPad and case/keyboard
  • iPad charging "block"
  • iPad charging cable
  • keyboard charging cable
A technician will have an individual transaction with each student. Any 8th grader who has missing or damaged items will be billed for them, and in order to receive a diploma at graduation, all bills for iPads and other school materials must be paid in the office.

California Healthy Kids Survey: Our students have been taking the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) this past week in their PE classes, provided they were given permission to do so. The CHKS survey is an important measurement of our school climate and culture, and we look forward to analyzing the data once we receive it. Our staff will be completing their version, and we also invite you to complete the CHKS parent survey. Yes, we know, who wants to complete another survey at this time of year? However, we hope you will strongly consider providing this valuable feeback to us. To access the brief parent survey, click here. Please use the school code NR46NW.

Parent Individual Feedback Form: Did you know that you can provide input to your child's counselor about class placement next year? Click here to download the form, complete and return to the school. This is the first step in communicating information you wish for us to consider. Please note that we do not entertain requests for specific teachers or academies.

Gold Ribbon School Recognition: On Friday, May 29, Hillview sent a team of teachers, administrators, parents and district staff to the Gold Ribbon School Award ceremony in San Francisco. We were proud to accept this recognition on behalf of Hillview's amazing teachers, students, and parents. For more details on this award and our application, please click here or see the link on our "Hillview in the News" page.

Graduation Details: Our 8th grade promotion ceremony, also know as Graduation, will bein at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10. We recommend that grad families walk if they can, or else carpool. The vast majority of parking will be on the street.

  • Gates will open at 3:30; no seats may be reserved before that time
  • We expect 8th graders to arrive at 4:30 to gather in their lines in the back parking lot for the procession
  • After the ceremony, there will be mingling and refreshments in the lunch area and on the baskeball courts
  • The Grad Party will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the gym, ending at 10:00 p.m. Please help us by coming in to collect your 8th graders at this time, and bring a hanky and a crowbar. Our experience is that the tearful goodbyes can take some time to complete.

Hawkapalooza (n): a wacky, crazy event only for Hillview students to celebrate the last day of school, Wednesday, June 10. Teachers and staff will be handling the supervision and chaperoning of the event, but we need parent volunteers to manage the lines and run the games (all of which are easy to understand and fun to run!) Please sign up here to help.

2015 - 2016 Volunteers Needed:
We need volunteers for various Back-to-School Events to

make those first days of the new school year run smoothly. Please take a look at the events and dates below to see if you are able to help:

Back-to-School Events
  • Friday, August 21, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., E Komo Mai Luau: Set up and decorate for the Welcome Back Luau. (Formerly known as Arena Check-in)
  • Monday, August 24, 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. Camp Hillview: Help serve lunches to 6th graders and WEB Leaders
  • Friday, August 28, time tbd, Camp Hillview: Chaperone pool field trip for 6th graders and WEB Leaders
Hot LunchServing lunch at Hillview takes less than 12 minutes, but it is great way to connect with the kids.  Volunteers arrive 20 minutes early to set up and stay 10 minutes to clean up and stack the lunch bins. It's less than an hour commitment a week and a fun way to meet other parents and see your kids and their friends at school.

Academy ParentsAs an Academy Parent, you would work on the Academy Support Team with other parents to assist the teachers in organizing celebrations, providing volunteers, forwarding school communications and helping with field trips. You will be contacted after the academies are assigned on Friday, August 21.

If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please click here.
