Important Annual Hillview Parent Survey: Please complete right away
Parents - we would love to hear your feedback on how things are going so far this year at Hillview! Please take this opportunity to share your valuable viewpoint, provide constructive suggestions for areas of growth, and/or highlight strengths. Click here to take the survey. The final deadline for completion is Sunday, April 12.
All survey responses are anonymous. These responses will be reviewed by the Hillview Site Council, including Principal Burmeister and Associate Principal Haug, to aid in making Hillview the best possible school it can be for our children. A report highlighting key strengths and areas for growth will be made available on the Hillview website in May. Mini-Course Countdown: One week to go! We hope your children are as excited as we are about the start of mini-course week in just a few days! A few reminders as we get close:
1) The bell schedule will be modified: - Monday 10:00 a.m. - 3:05 p.m. - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 8:25 a.m. - 3:05 p.m. - Friday 8:25 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Your child's course may have special hours which were spelled out in the information packet that went home in late February. There are no after school programs during mini-course week. Please emai if you have schedule or transportation concerns.
2) Permission Slips Are Overdue! There are still students who have not turned in their permission slips. If your child expects to participate in his or her course, permission slips must be completed. Please check backpacks, dining tables, book shelves to find those forms. If you do not have them, email us right away!
3) There are still some opportunities to chaperone an exciting field trip or donate/loan much needed supplies, and it doesn't even need to be for your child's course. Click here to see a list of needs.
4) Remember to cancel hot lunch for the days your child will be on a field trip over lunch time. Refer to your parent letter from the packet for schedule. To check your order, click here.
Block H: Just a reminder that we have a deadline for Block H coming up fast. After May 9th, we will no longer be accepting Block H forms. We know that May 9 seems like it is far away, but it will be here sooner than you think, so please get those forms in now! All forms should be turned into Mrs. Fichou in the student center during brunch or lunch.
Great authors are coming to Hillview! This Thursday, April 9, Elizabeth Wein will be speaking to students during Open Session about her new book, Black Dove, White Raven. All 8th graders with Quest are invited to attend along with some Quest classes from other grades. Any interested student may ask their OS teacher for permission to attend - get a "golden ticket" at the library! Order forms for signed and/or dedicated books and more information is available on the library website.
The ever-popular Wendy Mass will be skyping with our Author, Author minicourse. She's offering to sign any of her books for students - download the order form and get a head start on summer reading!
M-A Open House for 8th Grade Families: Interested in learning more about M-A? Come to the Open House on Thursday, April 9, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., starting in the M-A PAC. This is a great opportunity for families to meet 9th grade and elective teachers, gather information from a 9th grade Resource Fair, and learn about M-A's many programs. Information will be available about registration and address validation. For more information, please see the attached flyer.
Attention 8th Grade Parents: M-A has required summer reading for all of its English classes. One service the M-A PTA provides is to make book buying easy; when you order through us, we get the books and deliver them directly to your child. If your child is going to attend M-A next year, you can use this form to purchase the summer reading books required for the class your child will take, or use the form that your student should have brought home this past week. If you wish to take advantage of this service, simply complete the form, calculate the amount owed, write a check for the toal made out to "M-A PTA", and return the form and the check to the Hillview office by Friday, April 10. The books will be delivered to your child's English class in approximately four weeks. We would also appreciate it if you would consider making a donation as well. The English department uses donations to purchase books and materials for M-A students.
8th Grade Graduation Gown Orders Due May 1: Click here to order your child's graduation gown by May 1! You may order a new one or request to borrow one. All 8th grade families should have received a letter outlining expectations for students as well as important information about the events leading up to and through Graduation night. Can't find it? This information can also be found on the website.
Hillview Middle School 5th Grade Parent Night: All parents and guardians of 5th grade students are invited to attend this Tuesday, April 7, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. in the Hillview PAC. Meet teachers, learn about middle school transition, attend our Elective Fair and hear about all the great advantages of Hillview's program. See our flyer for more information. Student attendance is optional.

MPCSD Students Discover and Grow their Talents: Our vision for MPCSD's performing arts program has been realized faster, better, and stronger than we expected. From Orff and
Suzuki instructional methods to students dancing and singing, our students are the delight of parents, staff and community. Our students' access to the performing arts begins in Kindergarten and leads to incredible productions such as the recent sold-out performances of Willy Wonka. This production included students grades 4-8 and involved acting, singing, instrumental music, costumes, makeup, as well as stage design, lighting, and the makings of a Broadway show. What great entertainment for the entire family!
Our performing arts programs would not be possible without the scores of parents, dedicated staff, and community member volunteers, along with the incredible support of the Menlo Park Atherton Education Foundation! Thank you.
Governor Brown Directs First Ever Statewide Mandatory Water Reductions:
Following the lowest snowpack ever recorded and with no end to the drought in sight, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced on April 1 actions that will save water, increase enforcement to prevent wasteful water use, streamline the state's drought response and invest in new technologies that will make California more drought resilient.
Last year, MPCSD took measures to save water during the worsening drought to prevent wasteful water use. With the worsening historical drought we will take even more action to adhere to this new water reduction mandate. MPCSD's actions will be announced in next Sunday's newsletter, stay tuned.
