SPECIAL EVENT
Screening of the New Documentary The Mask You Live In and Q & A with Director Jennifer Siebel Newsom: Hillview's Speaker Series is honored to welcome the award-winning documentarian and Second Lady of California, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, to the Hillview PAC on Monday, March 2, at 6:30 p.m.
Commended for her groundbreaking documentary exploring the impact of the media's portrayal of girls in Miss Representation, Ms. Newsom now takes on gender stereotypes and the miseducation of our young boys in The Mask You Live In. Only weeks after its national release, Ms. Newsom is bringing her powerful new film to Menlo Park for YOU! Following the viewing of this film, Ms. Newsom will share the story behind the film and answer audience questions. The evening will likely run a little longer than most of our Parent Ed events in order to accommodate the film (which runs 90 minutes) and time with Ms. Newsom. We will begin at 6:30 p.m. sharp. Because the event is likely to fill up quickly, we suggest you arrive no later than 6:15 p.m. to secure a seat. *A note from Mr. B: In my personal email blast before break, I encouraged parents to bring their children with them to the screening of the Mask You Live In. While I still stand by that invitation, I wanted to provide some additional detail. The film is for mature audiences, but is not rated. On the documentary's website, we found the information below and wanted to make you aware. Before you decide, we recommend you watch the trailer. It will give you an idea of the context of the documentary. Having said this, I still think this is a great film for middle school kids--especially seventh and eighth grade boys--to see. From the website: "The full-length feature deals with difficult topics in a frank manner. As a result, we recommend the film for a 16+ audience although we do not have an official age rating from MPAA or a TV Parental Guideline yet." Click here for this year's line up of Hillivew's Speaker Series speakers. These events are open to all district parents and community members and take place in the Hillview Performing Arts Center. Free childcare is provided for all potty trained children. For more information, contact Jennifer Allen.
DEADLINE THIS FRIDAY
Parents of Current 6th Graders - Whooping Cough (Pertussis) Tdap Vaccination:
All incoming 7th graders in the 2015-16 school year are required by law to provide proof of a whooping cough booster, or Tdap shot (Td does not meet the requirement). Students will not be admitted to school if proof is not received before the first day of school.
To avoid exclusion on the first day of school in August, parents are being asked to provide proof of Tdap now. Please bring an updated copy of your child's immunization record showing proof of Tdap to the school office by Friday, February 27, 2015. Do not mark or highlight the copy. If there is a verified medical condition against vaccination, you are required to provide the school with a doctor's written statement which must include the specific nature and probable duration of the medical condition. If there is a personal belief for not vaccinating, you are required to obtain a personal belief exemption from your child's physician (form CDPH 8262).
Acceptable proof of immunization includes:
· Print-out or copy of immunization record from your child's clinic or physician's office;
· A copy of the yellow immunization record;
· A certification of Tdap booster letter from your child's clinic or physician's office.
All these documents must have your child's name, date of birth, date Tdap was administered, and a stamp or physician's signature from the clinic.
For more information about the law and whooping cough, visit District Health Services or shotsforschool.org, or contact Nancy McMahon, Health Services Assistant or (650) 321-7140, x5912. Last Chance Yearbook Sale: If you want a yearbook and DID NOT purchase an ASB card (which includes a yearbook), the Last Chance Yearbook Sale is for you! For one week only, February 23 - 27, a limited number of yearbooks will be on sale in the Student Center at brunch and lunch while supplies last. To purchase a yearbook during the Last Chance Sale, bring $40 cash or check (made payable to Hillview Middle School) to Mrs. Fichou in the Student Center and your name will be added to the yearbook distribution list. Yearbooks will be distributed in June. Remember, an ASB card includes a yearbook! If you can't remember if you purchased an ASB card, check in with Mrs. Fichou in the Student Center. Electronic Devices: A reminder for students and families that iPads are the only electronic devices allowed on campus. Cell phones, hand-held game devices, and personal iPads or tablets are NOT allowed at Hillview at any time during the school day and should be "off and invisible" if on campus. Thank you for your support of Hillview Handbook Policies. Drop Off Safety: Please remember to drive safely in the school driveway and drop off areas. In the morning, with many families dropping off students, the driveway and drop off area gets congested and speeding in the driveway to beat the tardy bell is dangerous. Please drive slowly for safety! Thank You from Robyn Watts: A HUGE thank you to all of the parents who have helped with our Character Education program this year. Your help has been so important to us as a school and to the students you interact with. As you all know, one of the 41 Developmental Assets we are focusing on is Building Adult Relationships with Students. By donating your time and energy to our students, you provide a positive example and create a caring atmosphere which affects the lives of each of our students. We so appreciate you!
