ACTION REQUIRED!
Parents of Current 6th Graders - Whooping Cough (Pertussis) Tdap Vaccination:
All incoming 7th graders in the 2015-16 school year are required by law to provide proof of a whooping cough booster, or Tdap shot (Td does not meet the requirement). Students will not be admitted to school if proof is not received before the first day of school.

To avoid exclusion on the first day of school in August, parents are being asked to provide proof of Tdap now. Please bring an updated copy of your child's immunization record showing proof of Tdap to the school office by Friday, February 27, 2015. Do not mark or highlight the copy. If there is a verified medical condition against vaccination, you are required to provide the school with a doctor's written statement which must include the specific nature and probable duration of the medical condition.  If there is a personal belief for not vaccinating, you are required to obtain a personal belief exemption from your child's physician (form CDPH 8262).

Acceptable proof of immunization includes:
       Print-out or copy of immunization record from your child's clinic or physician's office;
       A copy of the yellow immunization record;
       A certification of Tdap booster letter from your child's clinic or physician's office.

All these documents must have your child's name, date of birth, date Tdap was administered, and a stamp or physician's signature from the clinic.

For more information about the law and whooping cough, visit District Health Services  or shotsforschool.org, or contact Nancy McMahon, Health Services Assistant or (650) 321-7140, x5912.

Hillview Speaker Series: "Creating Moments of Impact: Promoting Discovery & Innovation with our Kids," with Lisa Kay Solomon, Author/Advisor, Monday, February 9, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., Hillview PAC.

What do Mythbusters and Monsters Inc. have to do with helping kids become better leaders?  A lot, it turns out!  While parents often see mass media as distracting at best and destructive at worst, it's possible to use even television and the movies as "teachable moments" to promote a mindset of creativity, inquiry, and discovery in our children.  Kids don't stop learning when they leave the classroom, and with a few simple techniques, parents can turn downtime into kid-friendly life lessons on collaboration, leadership, and inspiration.

Join author, parent, and neighbor Lisa Kay Solomon as she leads a thought-provoking conversation about building creative and fun learning experiences in our everyday lives and homes.  Drawing on the concepts outlined in her bestselling book, Moments of Impact, and leveraging her experience teaching the Innovation Studio class at the Design MBA program at the California College of the Arts, Lisa will share her insights and give parents strategies for helping their children tap into their creative and leadership abilities.

Screening of the New Documentary The Mask You Live In and Q & A with Director Jennifer Siebel Newsom:  Hillview's Speaker Series is honored to welcome the award-winning documentarian and Second Lady of California, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, to the Hillview PAC on Monday, March 2, at 6:30 p.m.

Commended for her groundbreaking documentary exploring the impact of the media's portrayal of girls in Miss Representation, Ms. Newsom now takes on gender stereotypes and the miseducation of our young boys in The Mask You Live In. Only weeks after its national release, Ms. Newsom is bringing her powerful new film to Menlo Park for YOU! Following the viewing of this film, Ms. Newsom will share the story behind the film and answer audience questions.

The evening will likely run a little longer than most of our Parent Ed events in order to accommodate the film (which runs 90 minutes) and time with Ms. Newsom. We will begin at 6:30 p.m. sharp. Because the event is likely to fill up quickly, we suggest you arrive no later than 6:15 p.m. to secure a seat.

*A note from Mr. B: In my personal email blast earlier this week, I encouraged parents to bring their children with them to the screening of the Mask You Live In. While I still stand by that invitation, I wanted to provide some additional detail. The film is for mature audiences, but is not rated. On the documentary's website, we found the information below and wanted to make you aware. Before you decide, we recommend you watch the trailer. It will give you an idea of the context of the documentary. Having said this, I still think this is a great film for middle school kids--especially seventh and eighth grade boys--to see. From the website: "The full-length feature deals with difficult topics in a frank manner. As a result, we recommend the film for a 16+ audience although we do not have an official age rating from MPAA or a TV Parental Guideline yet."

Click here for this year's line up of Hillivew's Speaker Series speakers. These events are open to all district parents and community members and take place in the Hillview Performing Arts Center. Free childcare is provided for all potty trained children.  For more information, contact Jennifer Allen.

      Last Chance to Submit an Auction Item for MPAEF Spring Auction and Event

Join the fun by pulling together your own contribution to this spring's MPAEF Auction event!  Submit your idea for something to auction that will raise money for our schools. Being an auction item donor is never as much work as you think it will be, but it is always more fun! MPAEF auction deadline to submit items and ideas is this Friday, February 13.

Your donation raises money to keep class sizes reduced, keep art, music, and library classes thriving, and enables administrators and teachers to introduce innovative teaching practices in our schools. Offer time at your favorite getaway, join friends to throw a party, show a student your professional day, share season tickets or a favorite bottle of wine. Look at the following categories, pick one and commit by this Friday!

  • Destinations, Adventures and Getaways: Give district families or a couple the opportunity to take a break by spending time in a place you find special!
  • Parties, Events, and Experiences for Adults: Organize an over the top bash or an intimate dinner to highlight cuisine. Donate as a single family or make a party out of your party by donating with friends.
  • K.I.T. - Kids In Training: Teach kids what makes your profession interesting. Designers, technologists, scientists, medics, doctors, chefs, artists, entertainers, public service professionals, open your doors and show a student what you do after the kids go to school.
  • Parties, Events and Experiences for Kids: Whether fitness, art, cooking, or a once-in-a-lifetime experience, donate a chance for kids to break from reading, writing, and arithmetic to play and just be kids! Whatever the idea, just bring them together!
  • Sporting Events and Memorabilia: Donate your tickets for Giants, Shark, 49er, Stanford and other local teams, premier PGA tournaments, Grand Slam tennis, or NASCAR events or link district families to a round of golf!
  • Exceptional Wines and Wine Experiences: Open up the riches of our region by offering up a unique bottle of wine or a wine experience. Host a wine or champagne tasting, create a personal trip to a vineyard for a couple or a group or fill their wine bar with special vintages. Donate a case or two from your wine club membership. Bring enjoyment, cultural adventure and appreciation to district families and raise money for our schools.
Questions about what or how to donate? Contact Flavia Herrod. Already organized and want to donate now? Use our online donation formTo get your creative juices flowing, view last year's auction catalog
