ACTION REQUIRED!
Parents of Current 6th Graders - Whooping Cough (Pertussis) Tdap Vaccination:
All incoming 7th graders in the 2015-16 school year are required by law to provide proof of a whooping cough booster, or Tdap shot (Td does not meet the requirement). Students will not be admitted to school if proof is not received before the first day of school.

To avoid exclusion on the first day of school in August, parents are being asked to provide proof of Tdap now. Please bring an updated copy of your child's immunization record showing proof of Tdap to the school office by Friday, February 27, 2015. Do not mark or highlight the copy. If there is a verified medical condition against vaccination, you are required to provide the school with a doctor's written statement which must include the specific nature and probable duration of the medical condition.  If there is a personal belief for not vaccinating, you are required to obtain a personal belief exemption from your child's physician (form CDPH 8262).

Acceptable proof of immunization includes:
·       Print-out or copy of immunization record from your child's clinic or physician's office;
·       A copy of the yellow immunization record;
·       A certification of Tdap booster letter from your child's clinic or physician's office.

All these documents must have your child's name, date of birth, date Tdap was administered, and a stamp or physician's signature from the clinic.

For more information about the law and whooping cough, visit District Health Services or shotsforschool.org, or contact Nancy McMahon, Health Services Assistant  or (650) 321-7140, x5912.

Hillview Speaker Series: "Creating Moments of Impact: Promoting Discovery & Innovation with our Kids" with Lisa Kay Solomon, Author/Advisor, Monday, February 9, 6:30 - 8:30, Hillview PAC.

What do Mythbusters and Monsters Inc. have to do with helping kids become better leaders?  A lot, it turns out!  While parents often see mass media as distracting at best and destructive at worst, it's possible to use even television and the movies as "teachable moments" to promote a mindset of creativity, inquiry, and discovery in our children.  Kids don't stop learning when they leave the classroom, and with a few simple techniques, parents can turn downtime into kid-friendly life lessons on collaboration, leadership, and inspiration.

Join author, parent, and neighbor Lisa Kay Solomon as she leads a thought-provoking conversation about building creative and fun learning experiences in our everyday lives and homes.  Drawing on the concepts outlined in her bestselling book,Moments of Impact, and leveraging her experience teaching the Innovation Studio class at the Design MBA program at the California College of the Arts, Lisa will share her insights and give parents strategies for helping their children tap into their creative and leadership abilities.

Click here for this year's line up of speakers. These events are open to all district parents and community members and take place in the Hillview Performing Arts Center. Free childcare is provided for all potty trained children.  For more information, contact Jennifer Allen.

7th and 8th Grade Valentine's Dance Chaperones Needed: A few more parent chaperones are invited to join the fun on Friday, February 6 from 6:15 - 8:45 p.m. 6th Grade parents are encouraged as well! This is the last dance for the 8th grade class! Please contact
HillviewPTOVolunteers for details on how to sign up.

Menlo-Atherton High School Parent Education Series"The Well-Balanced Student," with Denise Pope, PhD, Stanford University, Challenge Success, Tuesday, February 3, 2015, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.MAHS Performing Arts Center (PAC).

Please join us for an outstanding presentation by Dr. Denise Pope, internationally recognized educator, award-winning lecturer at Stanford University, and co-founder of Challenge Success, Stanford Graduate School of Education, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the well-being, engagement, and integrity of our students.

Today's high-pressure, fast-paced culture can interfere with healthy child development. When we are too focused on test scores, performance, and grades, we may deny kids the time and energy they need to effectively tackle the demanding work of growing up. This workshop examines the tensions that can occur between students, parents, and educators over issues such as homework, grades, and the culture of competition. We'll offer parents research-based strategies to create healthier home and school environments. Click here to register.

MAHS Parent Education Series events are free, sponsored by the MAHS PTA and other organizations. For more information, contact Charlene Margot at 650.868.0590. Spanish interpretation will be available.
