PTO Fundraiser at Chipotle

Please join the Hillview community for a delicious Chipotle Dinner on Tuesday, May 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. Click here for a flyer. Flyers are also available at the school and will be distributed at the carpool line on Tuesday morning. Chipotle is donating 50 percent of the proceeds back to the PTO.

Flower Day

Every year, Hillview teachers and staff look forward to Flower Day when they receive beautiful bouquets of flowers on behalf of the students to thank them for their hard work. This year, Flower Day is on Thursday, May 22.

Please send a few flowers to school with your child this Thursday. Volunteers will be collecting them at the car line and in the kitchen area at Hillview. We will then assemble the donated flowers into bouquets and deliver them to the teachers and staff.

If you'd like to help arrange flowers, please visit the sign-up sheet to participate in this fun tradition! For more information, please email Lyn Denend.

Open House

Open House is this Thursday, May 22. Food trucks will arrive at Hillview at 5:30 p.m., and we'll kick off the evening with Mr. Burmeister's State of the School Address at 6:30 p.m. in the Quad. You will then have the remainder of the evening to browse your student's classrooms and celebrate a year of learning.

As a reminder, 8th grade Decades Dancing will not be a part of Open House this year. Instead, 8th graders will perform on the evening of Thursday, May 29 in the Hillview PAC. There are two performances: one at 5:00 p.m., and the second at 6:00 p.m. Those families who will be attending open houses at Laurel and Oak Knoll, we have tried to schedule the dances to allow you an opportunity to attend both events, if you wish. We look forward to seeing all of you this Thursday evening!

Food Trucks at Open House

Back by popular request, and this time with more dining truck choices!

Join us early at Open House to have a super-easy family dinner! These food trucks, The Waffle Roost, Gold Rush Eatery, Speedy Panini, Grilled Cheese Bandits, Curry Up Now and Los Altos Tacos will be at Hillview selling all your favorites! The food trucks will offer a quick, easy menu option to keep the lines moving and allow your family to enjoy the evening's festivities. It's a great way to catch up with your classmates and families before heading into the classrooms to enjoy the work our students have worked on all year!

Open House Bake Sale

Each year at Open House, the 8th grade families host a bake sale to raise money for the 8th grade graduation party. We are seeking donations of baked goods to sell. All home baked goods are welcome! Cookies!! Cupcakes!! Cakes!! Brownies!! Please bring your donation to the drop off carpool during the morning of Open House. We will have volunteers ready to take your goods and repackage them if necessary.

Final Coffee Cart

The FINAL coffee cart for the Hillview staff will be held on Friday, May 23 and we need your help. Please sign up to bring some breakfast goodies or to help with setup/cleanup.

The staff will be so grateful to have their caffeinated beverage of choice and tasty breakfast treats after their late night at Open House. Contact Hilary Holmquest with any questions.

Annual Teacher and Staff Gift Fund

Hillview teachers and staff are amazing and we want them to know it! Let's thank them with anonymous gift cards by way of the 13th Annual Teacher Staff Gift Fund! At the end of each school year, parent volunteers organize a centralized fund to recognize more than 70 Hillview teachers and staff members. You are encouraged to contribute at your comfort level. All proceeds are used to purchase gift cards for delivery on the last day of school.

Please act by Friday, May 30. Contribute online or mail your check to this year's fund coordinator, Kathy Koenig, 1751 Croner Avenue, Menlo Park, CA 94025. Savvy PayPal users can avoid processing fees using PayPal and choosing Friends and Family; the email address for the fund account is kathy.koenig@gmail.com. Don't worry, your parent volunteer team will receive a record of your gift!  And you will receive an acknowledgement.

Thanks in advance for recognizing your incredible Hillview crew!

7th Grade Parent Help for 8th Grade Graduation

Yearbook Update

Some parents have reported that Jostens, the company that produced our yearbook in years past (we now use Balfour), is sending them emails requesting that they purchase a yearbook. Please ignore these emails. As a reminder, yearbooks are part of the ASB Card package, and all students who purchased an ASB card will receive a yearbook. If your students is an ASB card holder, you need do nothing else, as we have accurate records. If a student did not purchase an ASB card, and would like to purchase a yearbook, please email Yu-Luong Chang to reserve a copy for $35.

Electives Signups for Current 6th and 7th Graders

Class registration for 2014 -15 school year electives is now open! Please check the Hillview website front page for links to Course Catalogues, PowerSchool login access, and even a helpful screencast that will walk you through the process. We highly encourage you as a family to sit down, review the descriptions for electives and PE (we have both a traditional course catalogue and a video course catalogue), and make agreements about choices for next year. The elective sign-up window opened on Friday, May 16, and it will close on Wednesday, May 28. There is no advantage to signing up early in the window, as long as you get your choices submitted by May 28. Those who do not do so will have more limited choices.

Tdap Reminder

Parents of 6th graders, have you gotten your proof of TDAP (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) vaccination to Hillview yet? This is a requirement for all incoming 7th graders, and your deadline is Friday, June 13, the last day of school. Please make an appointment with your child's physician and either hand deliver proof of vaccination to the Hillview office, care of Cathy Bell, or email it to our Health Services Department, care of Nancy McMahon. This proof is necessary for your student to begin the 2014 -15 school year at Hillview. Look for a letter from MPCSD's health services department soon that will provide additional details, but there's no reason you can't get the ball rolling is you haven't already.
