Dear Hillview Parents and Guardians,
It's hard to believe that Mini-Courses are only TWO WEEKS away. Are you ready? The energy among teachers and students is electric; it seems everyone is talking about March 17 - 21 at Hillview Middle School...and for good reason.
- One week
- 43 courses
- 875 students
- 80 staff
- Scores of field trips
- An army of volunteers
- School. Only different
Permission Slips and Waivers Don't forget that THIS Friday, March 7 is the last day to turn in all permission slips and waivers; without them, your child cannot participate in the myriad of field trips involved. All families should have received a large packet of information over the February break. ALL forms copied on YELLOW paper must be completed and returned by Friday. Failure to do so will result in nagging from our helpful volunteers via phone, email, and in person...and no one likes a nag :-). If you have questions, email
Lunches During Mini-Course Don't forget that Choice Lunch is available everyday during Mini-Course. On days where your child is on a field trip, the student can either BRING their lunch or they can order a sack lunch via the field trip permission slip. Be sure that you DO NOT order a hot lunch on the day of the field trips. If you have questions, email minicourse@mpcsd.org.
Course Change Requests CLOSED Due to the nature of scheduling and budgeting, we can no longer accept requests for change-of-course unless it is due to an injury, illness, or refusal to agree to the field trips. If you have questions, email minicourse@mpcsd.org.
We Need Some VOLUNTEERS Who Want to Have FUN! Are you AMAZING? If you answered "Yes!" to this question...or even if you didn't...we need YOU. Our "Amazing Race" Mini-Course is in need of 10 volunteers on March 18, March 19, and March 20. Your child does not need to be registered for this course to volunteer and you do not need to be available all three days...we'll take you one, two, or all three days. And look at where you get to go...
- March 18 San Francisco - Pier 39 and Ghiradelli Square area
- March 19 San Francisco - North Beach
- March 20 Stanford University
If you have ever seen the reality competition show Amazing Race, you have an idea of the FUN that awaits you. Parent volunteers will supervise a team of four (4) students and be responsible for giving out clues, taking photos/videos (equipment provided) of the challenges and keeping kids safe while they move through the many challenges and clues they have to solve. We will travel up to San Francisco on Caltrain/BART (tickets will be provided to the chaperones, but you should plan on bringing a lunch). Parents will need to attend a course briefing before the event. This will be a unique and really fun way to interact with our AMAZING Hillview students, and get in on the action of our first ever Hillview Amazing Race!
If you can be a team leader on any of the dates, please contact Monica Bosch or minicourse@mpcsd.org.
Thank You! Please know how grateful we are for your support and encouragement as we pilot this unique program. I honestly don't think there is another public school out there as AWESOME and willing to try new things as Hillview. We hope you can join us for some of the action! |
Warmest Regards,

Erik Burmeister
