Dear Hillview Parents,

In recent weeks, Hillview and MPCSD have garnered some impressive attention and interest around the innovation and EdTech work being done by our amazing faculty and staff. I want to share with you some highlights from recent interactions.

JOIN US: Hillview to be highlighted at Book Event at Kepler's in Menlo Park on Wednesday, March 12 at 7 p.m.

Menlo Park resident and MPCSD parent, Lisa Solomon, is traveling around the country introducing her recently published book, Moments of Impact, which reached the Wall Street Journal's Bestseller list in its first week.

In Moments of Impact, Lisa and her co-author, Chris Ertel, highlight the power of collaborative problem solving and design thinking in an age when complicated problems require innovative solutions. Lisa will introduce her book to her hometown of Menlo Park at Kepler's and has asked Hillview Principal, Erik Burmeister, to join her onstage. Lisa will interview "Mr. B" about Hillview's journey in using collaborative problem solving and design thinking to redesign our middle school program.

We would LOVE to fill the bookstore with Hillview parents and innovation enthusiasts. Please plan to join us and bring a neighbor/friend at 7 p.m. at Kepler's in Menlo Park.

For more information about the event, please visit keplers.com.

To purchase Moments of Impact, check out amazon.com or, better yet, visit Kepler's.

KQED Mindshift Coverage

Two weeks ago, KQED's Mindshift educational blog highlighted Hillview's 1:1 iPad rollout. I invite you to take a look at the two blogs posted-one highlighting the overall program and the other spotlighting a few of our students and their perspectives on the benefits of the iPad.

A Big Hawk shout-out to...

  • Mr. Kaelin, Mr. Doroquez, and Mrs. Kingsley who are highlighted in the first article.
  • Our amazingly talented and dedicated staff who have taken on so much this year in addition to the 1:1 and have done it with style, grace, flexibility, and persistence.
  • Several of our students who are highlighted in the second article.
  • Our amazing district technology team, led by Anthony Hoppe, who have been SO supportive.
  • Our site technician who is often the unsung hero in our journey, Brian Benelli.
  • Our Tech Team including Mr. Doroquez, Mr. Kaelin, Mr. Ritter, Ms. Eisner, and Mr. Haug.
  • Dr. Ghysels, our district leadership team, MPAEF, and parents who have allowed us to make this dream a reality!

For the secondary article highlighting student perspective, click here.

As the article highlights, we are just beginning our journey and have much to do before we "realize" the true benefits of all the efforts we are making. In the meantime, I encourage you to enjoy the attention and encouragement such coverage provides. Feel free to tweet the articles, and share them on Facebook, LinkedIn, and other social network sites to highlight the work our amazing staff.

KGO abc7 Story

Just before the holidays, the Bay Area's ABC affiliate also spotlighted the work of Hillview's staff in relation to a national story about a $9 million gift to the Education Superhighway organization by Bill and Melinda Gates and Mark Zuckerberg. San Mateo County Superintendent, Anne Campbell, and Education Superhighway CEO, Evan Marwell, visited Hillview and were interviewed by the KGO team along with Hillview's own media darling-Mr. Doroquez! If you haven't already seen the video, click here.

I don't know about you, but I feel privileged to be associated with such amazing educators and specialists focusing so passionately on providing an innovative and relevant education for our community. Enjoy the attention and we hope to see you on Wednesday, March 12 at Kepler's!

Warm Regards,

Erik Burmeister Picture
