Mini Course Update
|
We are so grateful for all the generous donations and loans from parents! More items needed are :
- Fashion magazines like Vogue, InStyle, Glamour, etc.
- Sewing items like buttons, trim, fabric and any notions
- Mr. Schack and the Photography course are in need of DSLR cameras for students to use for the week. The class promises to take special care of them.
Magazines and sewing items can be dropped off in the front office. To loan a camera, please email minicourse@mpcsd.org. When you receive your official mini course packet in the mail, please read the letter for other course-specific items you can loan or donate. We couldn't make this week happen without all your wonderful help.

2014-2015 New Student Registration
|
New student registration for the upcoming 2014-15 school year began on Monday, February 3.
- Priority Kindergarten registration runs from February 3 - 28
- Grades 1-8 registration begins Monday, March 3
We are currently in the second and final year of the State's two year transition from the old December 1 to the new September 1 Kindergarten cutoff age. MPCSD does not plan to enroll students in a two-year Transitional Kindergarten program after the transition to the new age cutoff is complete. In the 2014-15 school year, all students must be 5 years old on or before September 1st to enroll. Phys Ed Notes
|
- Intramural sports will continue Monday - Wednesday after February Break: indoor hockey or soccer. Any student who shows up within 15 minutes of lunch will be allowed to play.
- Missed PE classes: The Phys Ed Department requests a note from a doctor if a student is unable to participate in PE class for any extended period of time (more than 3 or 4 consecutive days).
- Lost and Found is getting too full. An unusual amount of clothing and water bottles has been left in the gym and locker rooms. Please remind children to pick up after themselves especially clothing such as sweatshirts and jackets. Uncollected items will be donated to a local charity.

After School Sports
|
After School Basketball: Games for all grade levels continue after February Break. 8th grade games are on Mondays and played at either Hillview, La Entrada, Woodside Elementary or Corte Madera. Students in 6th and 7th grade continue league games this week. 6th grade girls play on Tuesday, 6th grade boys on Wednesday, 7th girls on Thursday and 7th boys on Friday at Arrillaga Gym.
Tennis: Registration is now available on sportability.com/hillview. Deadline to register is Sunday, February 23. Please click here for instructions. Tennis season will begin week of March 3.
Track: Track registration will be available at the end of February. Track will begin following Spring Recess.

Summer programs for gifted and talented youth The nonprofit National Society for the Gifted and Talented offers unique programming for gifted and talented students ages 5-17. SIG summer programs combine academics with social, cultural and recreational opportunities on 11 university campuses around the country. This is an opportunity for your advanced learner to explore his/her potential and connect with other gifted students from around the world. "Why Willpower Matters", Woodside Parent Education Series Thursday, February 27, 7 - 8:30 p.m., Woodside High School MUR Kelly McGonigal, Ph.D., a health psychologist and lecturer at Stanford University, and a leading expert in the new field of "science-help" shares cutting-edge research into the neurodevelopment of adolescents, along with valuable strategies or "willpower boosts" to give parents tools to conquer common self-discipline challenges and establish an effective model for improving self-control in children.This event is free but seating is limited, so register now!

"Straightlaced: How Gender's Got Us All Tied Up" Documentary Wednesday, February 26, 7 - 8:30 p.m., Sequoia High School MPR This documentary looks at the ways that societal pressures around gender and sexuality define American teens. Coming of age today has become increasingly complex and challenging. Straightlaced offers both teens and adults a way out of anxiety and fear, and points the way toward a more inclusive, empowering culture. Panel discussion to follow and Q and A with students and faculty. Event is free and sponsored by the Sequoia High School Education Foundation and the Sequoia Healthcare District. Refreshments offered in the MPR. Spanish subtitles; Spanish interpretation will be offered.
