Dear Hillview Parent/Guardian,

I have four important messages I would like to share with you today.

Don't Miss Dr. Sax Tonight at Hillview
First, I want to remind you that TONIGHT is our next Parent Education Speaker Series event. Hillview is honored to welcome nationally-recognized speaker, author and family physician Dr. Leonard Sax. Dr. Sax is the author of three best-selling books: Why Gender Matters, Boys Adrift, and Girls on the Edge. As a practicing physician and Ph.D. academician, Dr. Sax is a leading scholar and thinker on teenage development, gender and resilience. This is a presentation you do not want to miss. As with all of our Parent Education Speaker Series events, childcare is provided as are light snacks.

Join us TONIGHT at 6:30 p.m. in Hillview's Performing Arts Center (PAC). See you there!

ASB/Student Council Launch New Website!
Our amazing Hillview ASB has launched its new website. Please visit today. What can you expect to find? Photos of school events, information on ASB activities such as the Magazine Fundraiser, Block H, Hawkapalooza, advice articles written by leadership students and so much more!

This year's ASB has a mission to make sure that Hillview is a place where commitment, character and collaboration combine to create an unforgettable experience for every student. Their motto, "Ready to Rock!", signifies their commitment to owning new challenges and using their creativity to build community amongst all Hillview Hawks. This website is a piece of that puzzle, blending social media with the latest buzz around school events, spirit competitions, Block H and all things Hillview! Parents and students are encouraged to visit and subscribe to the blog updates and the HillviewASB Remind101 text alerts. Directions for subscribing to these alerts are on the site. Please take a minute to show your support for ASB by visiting their site at www.HillviewASB.com and staying up to date with the latest in Hillview's activities program.

If you have any ASB questions, please don't hesitate to contact our activities directors Brian Darmanin and Danielle O'Brien.

Mini-Courses Are Full-Steam-Ahead
Our Mini-Course planning team is gearing up for sign ups this November. Students will be taking a survey this week to indicate their initial interests on the near final course list. More information to come! Gear up for some amazing options for kids during our first-ever intercession program March 17 - 21. It's school ... only different.

School Safety
You have likely already heard that there was another school shooting that occurred in Nevada. Whenever an event such as this occurs, we are reminded of how important the safety of our school remains. Please know that our security and safety procedures remain strong and in place every day. We regularly meet with the Menlo Park Police Department and have regular drills to automatize our response to all disaster scenarios. In fact, we have a regularly scheduled lock-down drill scheduled for this Wednesday. All entrances are monitored or closed during school hours and all visitors are required to sign in. Staff are always alert and on the lookout for suspicious situations or people.

As a parent and frequent visitor to the campus, you can assist us by registering at the front office every time you visit campus and wearing a visitors badge any time you leave the office. Please don't be offended when we ask you to return to the office for a visitors badge as we consider your child's safety our number one priority. Please also alert the office to any suspicious situations or people.

Our thoughts and well wishes go out to the community in Nevada. Please know that at Hillview and within MPCSD, your child's safety is our number one priority. As always, if you have concerns or questions, Mr. Haug and I remain available via email and phone.

In Closing...
I hope you are having a great autumn season. The energy and engagement at Hillview is terrific. As always, please know that our doors are open to you during lunch for Parents on Campus; we love to have you. Simply sign in at the front desk and join us for a walk around the track, lunch with your child and his/her friends or jamming out to Friday music.

Sincerely,

Erik Burmeister Picture
