WE DID IT!

Thank you to the Hillview Community for coming together in such a grand manner! We have raised enough money to fully fund this year's budget! Together we raised $164,000 and counting.

More than 82 percent of families donated - this number is higher than we have seen in a few years. Way to go! And, the Hillview Staff reached 100 percent participation - for the second year in a row. Yay staff!

When we all join together like this we send a powerful message to the community - we are in this together!

THANK YOU!

If you have not already received a thank you gift for donating to the Hillview PTO you can pick up a Hillview bag and/or magnet in the front office.

One week ago we launched our Pledge and Payments Drive. During the month of October, we are asking families to commit their support for our schools in any of these ways:

We have also launched our Foundation 50 Challenge! If 50 families donate for the first time at the $1,500-per-student level, an additional $50,000 will be awarded to our schools! The challenge runs between September 29 and October 25. Click here to learn more!

The Annual Parent Campaign closes on Thursday, November 21 so make your commitment today!

Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences

As of today, Sunday, October 6, parents may sign up for conferences with their child's teacher. Conferences will take place October 15 - 18 in the afternoons.

Please understand that while we do our very best to accommodate your desires to meet with us, it is a practical impossibility for us to meet with every family during these four half days. To sign up for a conference, visit the online scheduler. You will need to know our super-secret school password, which is hawks, and also your student's ID number.

We are also providing a support document in English and Spanish to facilitate this process. We think the system is very intuitive and works great, but if you get stuck or need help, you can contact the Hillview office during regular business hours from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The online scheduler will only be open for one week, and will close on Sunday, October 13

Hillview Music Potluck

Join the 25th Annual Hillview Music Potluck Wednesday, October 9.

Bring something to share and enjoy some great music! The food begins at 6:30 p.m. with music going in the PAC from 7 - 8 p.m. We will have alumni playing as well as parents and friends. The 7/8 Symphonic Band, 7/8 String Orchestra and Chorus will all be presenting a song or two as well.

For more information, please contact Sidney Marks. Hope to see you!

Walk-To-School Day

International Walk-to-School Day is Wednesday, October 9.

Join Superintendent Maurice Ghysels and millions of people around the world in walking to school this Wednesday. Here is what to do:
  • Pick up free safety vests for adults and children from the Hillview office. Being visible = being more safe.
  • Check the Safe Routes to Hillview map and study these Pedestrian Safety Tips.
  • Make plans to walk with friends and neighbors.
  • Wear your safety vests and walk to Hillview on Wednesday.
  • Walk your bike for the last block and participate too! Wear a safety vest and helmet.
Site Council

Want to be involved in Site Council at Hillview? Hillview has some parent representative spots available for Site Council. Site Council advises the principal on the school's goals and budget. Additionally, Site Council assists in providing feedback from a number of different perspectives.
The time commitment is minimal and meetings are monthly on Monday afternoons.

If you are interested in nominating yourself, please email Mr. Burmeister with your interest no later than Friday, October 11.

Fall Volunteering

School is well underway and going smoothly. Now that things have settled down a bit, here are some volunteer opportunities that could still use some support:

Dance Chaperones - the first dance of the year -- for 7th and 8th Graders -- takes place on Friday, October 25 from 6:10 - 8:45 p.m. We are looking for some courageous parents to help out.

Coffee Carts -- show the staff how much you appreciate them by baking treats or staffing a coffee cart one morning. Several dates throughout the year.

If either of these opportunities seem "like you", please email volunteer@hillviewpto.org to be part of the team.

Hillview Service Club

Students are invited to attend the Hillview Service Club meeting in the PAC on Thursday, October 10 after school from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m.

At this meeting, all students at Hillview, Encinal (grades 4 - 5) and Oak Knoll (grades 4 - 5) are welcome! There will be fun, candy and motivational speakers.
