STAR Testing
|
The Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) and California Standards Tests (CST) take place Monday, May 6 - Friday, May 10 at Hillview. All students take standards tests in English-Language Arts and Mathematics. In 8th grade, students take a science test and a history/social science test.
You can best prepare your child by ensuring a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast prior to each day of testing. Please avoid scheduling appointments that would require your child to be absent during the testing window.

Hillview Talent Show DVD
|
Starting next week, DVD copies of this year's incredible talent show will be on sale for just $5. They will be sold during recess and lunch in the quad and in room G-3. Please have your child bring $5 to get a copy while supplies last.
If you would like to pick-up a copy in the office yourself, please contact Brian Darmanin. Thanks to all those who attended and helped make this year's talent show a huge hit.

Greek Festival
|
Thanks to the many volunteers who made the 6th Grade Greek Festival such a success. However, with all great victories come the spoils of war (i.e. leftover serving dishes). If you brought a dish to share and didn't pick it up -- please take a look in the Student Services room on campus and grab your items.

Music News and Notes
|
- The Spring Concert is fast approaching. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, May 15. The music will begin at 7 p.m. in the Hillview PAC. Bring family, friends and neighbors to hear our wonderful groups. You'll be glad you did!
- The M-A Music Department went to Southern California last week and participated in the Heritage Music Festival. The orchestra received the highest Gold Award and was ranked first! Concert Band placed 3rd with a Silver medal and Jazz Band took 2nd place with a Silver medal. The Orchestra has also been invited to the Festival of Gold next year in either Los Angeles, Chicago or Washington, DC. The majority of students are Hillview graduates. Way to go!

Hillview Service Club
|
Students can volunteer at Haven House as part of the Hillview Service Club. Haven House has two programs -- Arts and Crafts, and Homework Club tutoring. Both programs allow students to help and play with the kids. Volunteer for this fun service and get Block H points, too! Please note, that although students will earn Block H points for volunteering, this is not a school sponsored event.

Action Afternoon Hawk-A-Palooza
|
Parent volunteers needed for the Action Afternoon Hawk-A-Palooza! This annual Hillview event is a school-wide spirit celebration of teamwork, games and fun. Similar to the 6th Grade Greek Fest and 7th Grade Survival Fest .... except, it's the entire school! What does that mean? We need the help of MANY parent volunteers for general supervision on the afternoon of Friday, May 31. Shifts will run from approximately 12:45 - 3:05 p.m. and we need as many 6th, 7th, and 8th grade parents as we can get to help us put on this incredibly exciting event. Come be a part of the fun by signing up online.
For more information, contact Hillview Student Activities Directors Brian Darmanin and Danielle Ireland.

Teacher/Staff Gifts
|
Take care of your year-end teacher and staff gifts by donating to the Hillview Teacher/Staff Gift Fund. At the end of each school year, PTO volunteers organize a centralized fund to recognize the more than 70 Hillview staff members. Parents are encouraged to contribute at whatever level is comfortable, and all donations are used to provide gift cards to the Hillview team on the last day of school.
Thank you in advance for helping us recognize our incredible Hillview team!

Family Volunteering |
Support Encinal's "Chores for Change" (May 3 - 10) - Many families have been touched by cancer in some way and just a few months ago, one of our Encinal Eagles Tyler Nelson was diagnosed with lymphoma. He is undergoing treatment and thankfully has a good prognosis. In support of our fellow student and many others, Encinal is engaging in a week long fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. From Friday, May 3 - Friday, May 10, students are encouraged to earn money by doing household chores -- setting the table, washing the car, or helping an elderly neighbor clean the porch -- to donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. It is suggested that students earn between $.25 and $2.00 per chore. All funds will be brought to Encinal for collection. Other schools are welcome to participate and donate to our cause. Click here for more details or contact Nicole Scott, Encinal school counselor.
