Dear Hillview Parents and Guardians,

It's an exciting time at Hillview this week. You've probably seen the signs and read about it in InMenlo and the Almanac today... our inaugural musical in the new Performing Arts Center opens this Thursday. Come join us as our Theatre Department proudly presents "HONK!" the musical. One weekend only! A special after-school performance this Thursday, February 28 at 3:30 p.m. Shows continue on Friday, March 1 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

A sweet and touching re-telling of Hans Christian Andersen's classic story "The Ugly Duckling", HONK! has great songs, dancing and family-friendly fun. It's perfect for your little ones and your big ones! All district faculty and staff are admitted free of charge. If you are bringing folks, they'll need to buy tickets online at www.hillviewdrama.org or at the door $12 per student and $15 per adult. Come and experience our production in the brand new, state-of-the-art Hillview Performing Arts Center and be wowed by our student singers and dancers mentored by our new Theatre Director, Mr. Bill Hairston and Choreographer (of PE fame), Ms. Katie Salem, as well as our INCREDIBLE student orchestra led by the incomparable Mr. Richard Vaughan! Come and see this sweet show.

Of course, were it not for the more than 10 percent of our budget funded directly by your generous gifts to the Menlo Park-Atherton Education Foundation (MPAEF), we would not be able to offer such outstanding programs. Your support makes a difference and the HONK! production is just one of scores of examples every year that are possible because of the community's support of education.

And more good news ... I received word that as of 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, MPAEF reached 73 percent of district families participating. This means we are only seven percent away from reaching our goal of 80 percent by THIS FRIDAY. If we hit that magic number of participation, a generous donor has pledged an additional $50,000. The deadline to reach this goal is Friday, March 1. If you are one of the families who has not yet had the opportunity to give, I encourage, implore, ask and request that you please consider donating or pledging before Friday.

Congratulations to the EVEREST Academy in 6th grade -- the first academy at Hillview to reach 70 percent participation. Congratulations to Caracol in 7th grade which is leading 7th grade Academies and Pioneers in 8th grade who are leading 8th grade Academies. All Academies are very close in participation, but only one in each grade level can be NUMBER #1. Students can bring in donations to their Homeroom or parents can identify their child's academy on the check to receive spirit points. And don't forget ...Thursday, February 28 is an Orange Spirit Day to recognize the last days of the Participation Challenge.

I look forward to seeing you at HONK! and thank you for your participation in and support of our MPAEF efforts.

Warm regards,Erik Burmeister Picture
