MPAEF Campaign Continues Strong into 2013

Our annual campaign has been up and running for several months now and over the holiday break we've been busy gathering important data to share with our parent community. This status update will help us to prepare for the second half of the campaign and to set strategies towards reaching the District's $4 million need.

Coming Soon ... Look for activities and events that will support our campaign and schools, including:

  • An exciting announcement from your school's principal later this week that we hope will inspire new donors and increase donations!
  • MPAEF Auction -- save the date for April 27. Planning for our Spring auction is already underway and event details will be released shortly. Contact Karen Dearing or Cyndy Hogan to help with auction solicitations, event planning and support, decor, marketing, raffle and more!
  • A new District-wide family fun event in June that will bring students and parents together from all four schools -- all in the name of raising dollars for our kids' education!

As we start this new year, please consider making a gift that will materially impact your child's educational experience. Your gift matters!

Wednesdays, January 23 - February 27

6:30 - 8 p.m.

Hillview Library

Building assets in our children might be some of the most important work we do as parents. How can we help our kids thrive? What is most important in helping my child succeed in school academically AND in life? How can I show my child I support their efforts and dreams? These questions and more will be answered in a six-week parent study group series facilitated by Pam Von Wiegand, founder of Project Cornerstone.

Please RSVP to Pam Larkin.

with Dr. Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D.
Tuesday, January 29, 7 p.m.
Hillview Performing Arts Center

NOTE: We've opened up balcony seating - please email nscott@mpcsd.org to reserve a seat!

The Friends of the Menlo Park Library present a special evening with Stanford Psychology Professor and Author Dr. Carol S. Dweck, PhD, whose work has demonstrated the role of mindsets in student motivation and has shown how praise for intelligence can undermine motivation and learning. With a growth, rather than fixed mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work - brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment. To register, click here.

We are trying to gauge the interest of students in having a safe and fun place to play these strategy and/or card games during lunch time. If you think your son or daughter might be interested in having a place to join with others who enjoy these games, please email Mr. Burmeister.

This opportunity is brought to you by Hillview's Asset Development Team in their effort to create a place where all kids belong!

Congratulations to flautist, Kristina Lee, on being selected to the All-State Junior High Honors Band. Kristina is the first Hillview student to have ever received this honor.

ParentSurveyParent Survey Yearbook

Hillview is embarking on a Design-Thinking process with the goal of answering the question, "How should our program, offerings, and opportunities change to meet the changing needs of the world into which our kids are graduating?"

This fall, we convened a group of leaders, teachers, and parents to form our Design Team and partnered with Stanford University's Design School to engage in lively collaboration around how Hillview can and will evolve.

Below is a link to a survey designed by our Design Team intended to gather ideas and feedback as we "prototype" some new schedules and changes to our program. We are inviting all parents and guardians as individuals OR couples to complete this survey. Please ONLY complete the survey one time per parent. The deadline for submission of the survey is Wednesday, January 23.

Please note: Some of the survey questions ask you to evaluate your feelings toward possible changes. NONE of these changes are definite and should be considered hypothetical until we are further along in the process. Please stay clear of assumptions and expectations as they can get in the way of the design process.

Access the survey, here.

If you have questions, email Erik Burmeister.
