Greetings fellow Pioneers:
In Plainview and the area, we've just now stopped quacking like ducks after the wettest May in Hale County history. The Lord has blessed all of Texas with great rains to replenish some vastly depleted lakes and water supplies.
Sadly, there have been some tragedies, including the drowning death of Brandon Henegar, BA'01, near Gainesville. He played baseball and was a former pitching coach for the Pioneers. Our prayers continue for his wife Karla and children Kyler and Charlee.
It won't be long before football season cranks up and we remind you to make plans to support the Pioneers and all our athletic teams.
Homecoming is Oct. 2-3 and if you would like to nominate someone for our Distinguished Awards - Outstanding Alumni (the highest honor), Service, Leadership, Benefactor and Young Alumni - you can simply e-mail me at [email protected] with a name and whatever information you know about them. The nominations are due by July 1.
In new twist, we'll be honoring all graduates of the classes of 1960-65 with special emphasis on the 50th anniversary class of 1965. Watch for more information.
We've been contacting students who have already been accepted to Wayland to register on July 18. If you know a student still seeking a great university, point them in our direction.
If you aren't getting Footprints alumni magazine by mail and would like to do so, please contact me or you can access the current and past issues at wbu.edu, the Alumni link at the left and Footprints.
Also, if you didn't purchase a yearbook for any reason or failed to get yours before you graduated, we have extra copies from almost every year since 1949 and will ship one just for the cost of mailing. Let me know and I'll be glad to send you one.
Have a great summer and plan on coming to Homecoming!
