Young Alumni Family Skate Party!

The Young Alumni Board hosted a family skate party in Plainview on April 11. We had about 60 people join us for fun on the roller rink, and it was a great time with family and friends! The Young Alumni Board looks forward to hosting more family-friendly events in the future, so be on the look out for more!

Director's Message

Greetings Fellow Pioneers:

Although I was disappointed - as were the Pioneers and Flying Queens - that it was "one and done" for both in the NAIA national tournaments in Kansas City and Independence, Mo., respectively, back in mid-March, we're proud of the great seasons for both teams and for all individual honors received.

I was glad to see former Athletic Director Sylvia Nadler, who wrote a history of women's basketball at Wayland from 1910-1979 for her doctoral dissertation; former track All-Americans Borns Andama, Patrick Nwanguzo and Moris Egon; and pastors Randall Stotts and Greg Griffin at our games. Sylvia and the ex-tracksters all joined us for dinner at Chappell's, a neat restaurant and sports museum in Kansas City.

Borns says, "We are proud of Wayland and what it has done for us. From Wayland we have learned to become good citizens and good people." Moris and Borns are natives of Nigeria and Patrick is from Uganda. Watch for a picture of them in the spring issue of Footprints alumni magazine due out in early May (you can access via the Alumni link at wbu.edu if you don't receive a printed copy) with lots of other good features and information as well.

Track, baseball, golf and spring training football are all in full swing and you can keep up with all our teams at our impressive sports website - wbuathletics.com - where you also can see live action and updates. Sports Information Director Kevin Lewis does an incredible job promoting our teams through stories, stats, photos and videos.

Graduation is just a month away and we'll be streaming the Commencement service at wbuathletics.com so you may want to tune in at no cost and "remember when."

Oh, yeah, and I'll still sell you a once-in-a-lifetime offer of my book, "Things I Have Saw and Did - Fifty Years of Thinking Out Loud," for $25, including mailing, to benefit the general scholarship fund. Send a check to Danny Andrews, 1305 Itasca, Plainview, TX 79072. The ones I have left are getting lonely sitting in the back storage room.

May God bless you and please say a good word for Wayland today!
