He also serves as Associate Pastor of a church in Ellis, Kansas, which gives him the chance to apply his past studies and what he is currently learning. Read More!

First Winter Wear Drive a Success!

During the first Winter Wear Drive for Wayland International students, the Young Alumni Association and the Baptist Student Ministries collected more than 30 winter coats, as well as vests, sweaters, blazers, long-sleeved t-shirts, pants, hats, gloves, socks, scarves, and a union suit. They also raised more than $120 in cash donations. These items are already being distributed through the BSM, with a large event scheduled for Sunday, November 9.

Director's Message

Dear Fellow Pioneers:

One of the great pleasures of my life has been writing a book - a project many friends have suggested through the years.

Between February and September, as time allowed, I wrote a 442-page, 250-story book containing about 1,100 names.

At the insistence of two great friends, Dean of Students Tom Hall and new Advancement officer for Lubbock, Eddie Owens, the main title  is "Things I Have Saw and Did" because a mutual friend, the late Jimmie Chennault, was a great basketball referee and baseball umpire but he and the King's English where not close friends. Jimmie once said, "I've saw some of the things he's did." So, apologies to all English teachers, including the late beloved Dorothy Jamar of Wayland.

The subtitle, "Thinking Out Loud," was the title of the twice-weekly column I wrote while editor for 28 of the 39 years I worked at The Plainview Herald, and also the title of my column in Footprints, the alumni magazine.

In addition to several Wayland stories, the book includes sections on Family, Faith and Church, People, Sports, School Days, Newspaper Stories, Hearst Stories and Miscellaneous Stories.

I hope to foster in readers memories of their own similar growing-up experiences, to take them vicariously to meet with presidents in the White House and encounter some celebrities, confront cantankerous newspaper readers, share humorous glimpses of sports officiating and broadcasting, relate tales that prove this is a small world after all and, perhaps, encourage their own faith journey.

The book is $25, which includes postage and shipping. All proceeds benefit Wayland's general scholarship fund.

The book can be ordered by sending a check to Danny Andrews, Wayland Baptist University, 1900 W. Seventh, CMB 1291, Plainview, TX 79072, or by contacting me at andrewsd@wbu.edu, 806-291-3603 or 806-729-7154.

I'd be honored if you'd purchase one or more. I think they'd make a great Christmas gift.
