Alumni Happenings
Angela Lichtie is the new Assistant Director of Wayland's Baptist Student Ministry.
Alumni Feature:
Angela Lichtie

When Angela Lichtie came to Wayland's Plainview campus in August 2009, she intended to pursue a degree and career in choral education. Four years and four major changes later, she ended up with a degree in Secondary English Education. Angela began her career as an English teacher right after graduation, teaching summer school at Plainview High School, but life soon took her to the other side of the world to Central Asia where she taught guitar and English while sharing her faith. Angela completed her whirlwind tour of the world by coming back to Plainview and Wayland, where she now serves as the Assistant Director of Wayland's BSM.

Young Alumni gather donations for new WBU students

The Young Alumni Association is in the process of collecting items to be given away to incoming freshman and transfer students when they arrive on campus later this month. The purpose of this project is to give new students the best start to their college career as possible.

We are looking for items such as blankets, small furniture, small appliances, backpacks, school supplies and any other items new students might need. Items may be donated at any time, but there will be an open drop-off time on August 18 from 8:15 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the SMAC (9th and Utica).

The giveaway event will be on August 19, the day before classes begin. New students will have a chance to select items they need for the upcoming school year and they will also be entered to win prizes thorough out the event.

Director's Message

Greetings to all Pioneers everywhere:

Seems the older we get the more we talk about how fast time flies. A movie that came out when I was in high school was  entitled "Stop the World: I Want to Get Off."

Well, I don't want to get off just yet but, my, how the words of older adults to me as a kid regarding "flying time" come flying back. Hard to believe we're more than halfway through 2014.

At this writing, we're only a couple of weeks away from the start of a new school year. It's been pretty quiet around campus the last three months. We're ready for the energy students bring - especially wide-eyed freshmen showing up for Koinonia.

Amy Loafman and the Young Alumni Association have some great plans for the Initiation of the Flame ceremony and the start of school means sports activity will be ginning up with football, cross country, soccer, golf and volleyball on the agenda.

Speaking of football, the Pioneers launch the season against a new foe - Arizona Christian University - in Phoenix on August 30, then come home and play three straight against Western Colorado (Sept. 6), Howard Payne (Sept. 13) and Hardin-Simmons University (Sept. 20 for Homecoming).

Over the subsequent six weeks, the Pioneers play five road games at Sul Ross (Sept. 27), Southwestern Assemblies of God (Oct. 11), Langston (Oct. 18), Bacone (Oct. 25) and Texas College (Nov. 1). The final two games are at home - Panhandle State (Nov. 8) and Oklahoma Baptist (Nov. 15).

If you live in or close to any of those five "road" opponents and would like to be part of a Wayland get-together in conjunction with a game, please let me know as soon as possible at 806-291-3603 or andrewsd@wbu.edu.

The Class of 1964 will be the Honor Class for Homecoming (Sept. 18-19-20) but all classes ending in "4" will be recognized. Several graduates and Wayland supporters will be honored at chapel on Sept. 19 with all graduates of 1964 and before will be guests at a luncheon after chapel.

A good group already has signed up for Parents Weekend slated Sept. 12-13. Some fun activities are scheduled plus plenty of time for parents and sibling (grandparents are invited, too) to visit with their student.

You can register for Parents Weekend and/or Homecoming at wbualumni.com.

Say a good word for Wayland today!
