Greetings to Pioneers everywhere:
One of the bad parts about aging is that the words of your parents and others become all too true: The older you get, you can't believe how time flies.
As 66 approaches (and that number has nothing to do with Phillips or Route), it seems like my weeks are down to about three days. And, by the way, how did I go from walking into Gates Hall as a handsome and slender (OK, one out of two ain't bad) 18 year old to being well qualified as a senior citizen so fast?
Enough of the pity party. The point is, I hope you're taking time to enjoy life, whether you're one of the young Whippersnappers who just got your degree or a Senior Alum who hardly has enough energy to snap a whip if you had one.
Take that vacation, go on a cruise, check off something on your Bucket List (if you have one), make that phone call, write that letter or e-mail or Facebook message of encouragement to a friend, do a good deed you've been intending to do.
Hear endeth the sermon.
Elsewhere, you'll see a note about ordering a brick to be placed in front of the Laney Student Activities Center. For $50 (with proceeds benefitting the general scholarship fund) you can have three lines to leave a lasting impression at your alma mater.
Certainly you can include your own information or honor another alum or make a statement. For example:
Jack Smith, BA'64
Pioneer Basketball
District 8 Champs
Bill & Bertha Jones
Proud WBU Alums
Thanks Mom, Dad
Wayland Opened
Many Doors For Me
Randy Brown, MS'97
Have a great summer... and say a good word for Wayland!
