Greetings!

We love to keep you up to date with the latest news from the Alumni Association! This e-letter is designed to do just that! Read below to find out just what other Wayland Alums are up to these days:

Alumni Happenings
WBU Alum Phil Golden and his wife with their kids, Denver, Brianne, and Brooks.
Alumni Feature:
Phil Golden

Phil Golden recently graduated from Wayland's Wichita Falls campus with an MBA. He is now using his time to fight for a cause that is very close to his family.  Brooks, one of Golden's sons, has a rare genetic disorder that currently has no treatment or cure. Since his son's diagnosis Golden has started an organization called Expedition Awareness, which seeks to raise awareness and research funds for rare illnesses.

Alumni prepare to give back to new WBU Students

Do you remember the feeling of coming to school for the first time and realizing you didn't have something for your dorm room that you really needed? Well the Alumni Association is preparing to help incoming WBU students with this exact problem! We are currently collecting items that will be made available to incoming freshmen and transfer students at a special giveaway event in August.

Any donations in good condition are welcome, especially items that can easily be used in a dorm room or apartment. Monetary donations for the project are also greatly appreciated. To donate, contact Amy Loafman at loafmana@wbu.edu or 806-291-3602.

Director's Message

Greetings to Pioneers everywhere:

Summer's around the corner and things are sizzlin' at Wayland as we look forward to an early Homecoming that will be on top of us soon after school starts back in mid-August. Assistant Alumni Director Amy Loafman has run with the organizational ball and we've got some fun activities in the works to go along with our traditional events that will salute several distinguished alumni in the Friday Chapel and the Saturday Athletic Hall of Honor.

Save the dates of Sept.18-20 and plan to join us for a super weekend. We'll keep you updated via subsequent newsletters.

We congratulate almost 90 students who received their undergraduate or master's degree in Commencement on the Plainview campus May 10 and many others who have received their degrees during the spring or will "walk the stage" at our various external campuses or through the Virtual Campus in the coming months.

We're happy to report almost $4,000 has been added to the general scholarship fund through proceeds from the fabulous Ernie Haase and Signature Sound concert on May 9 when almost 800 people attended. Paul Harkey, BA'03, wowed the audience with his great bass voice. Several said hearing him sing "Old Man River" was worth the price of admission.

Be safe...have a great summer....and stay in touch!

Sincerely,

Danny Andrews
