At the time of The Center for Education Reform's (CER) founding in 1993, the combination of school choice and accountability was foreign to K-12 education, but has since become the policy foundation for increasing student achievement.
Yet still, far too often parental outreach is not the top priority in policy making, despite the fact that it's so critical in promoting reform efforts at the grassroots level.
CER serves as a bridge between policy and practice, and policy and parents, in the quest to ensure ALL schools work better for ALL children, championing more and better educational options for students and families.
Whether for parents in states without a charter law, the low-income families who stand to benefit from opportunity scholarships, or the lawmakers on Capitol Hill or in statehouses who CER briefs regularly, we act as a repository of information on what constitutes meaningful reform and empower parents to turn that information into action.
Through the Parent Power Index, charter law rankings, and grassroots toolkits, CER strives to inform parents they do have the power to ensure better opportunities for their child.
So join us to deliver the promise of success and excellence in education, because EVERY child can learn when given the opportunity.
-- Kara Kerwin, president of The Center for Education Reform.
