Dear DHS Parents,

It seems like school started only yesterday, but here we are almost one third of the way through the first semester of the 2014-2015 school year.  I'm reminded of the importance of the number 720 to our school and our students alike.  This is the number of days that are allotted for the entire high school experience - an experience that comes once in a lifetime and yet for most of us, contains some of life's more significant memories.  For our freshman students, the number of days remaining is already less than 700, and our seniors have only about 150 school days until they are walking across the stage, receiving their diplomas and beginning a new chapter in the story of their lives.  Time surely does fly!  Whether you're the parent of a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior, let me thank you for your involvement in your child's high school experience and encourage you to continue to be actively involved for their entire journey.  As with any journey, there are sure to be ups and downs, hills and valleys, celebrations and challenges, but I believe that the value of parents who care enough to be involved in the lives and education of their children is truly invaluable.  I'm hopeful that this newsletter, along with our new school app, school website, parent portal, e-blasts, parent conferences, etc. serve to keep you well informed and assist you in truly maximizing the impact of your involvement in your child's high school experience here at Duluth.
