Art & Garden Center Study Session
Tonight at 6:00pm
The Orinda City Council will hold a Study Session to discuss a proposal from the Wilder developer to consider an alternative site for the Art and Garden Center to be located in the Wilder development.  The Study Session will be held on Monday November 2nd at 6:00 p.m. in the Community Center in Room 7.   The developer proposes to pay the full costs of the facility, fixtures, and equipment of this public amenity located within Wilder Park and will construct a trailhead area at the southern end of the Project Site which includes up to 22 parking spaces with 2 designated for equestrian trailers and a restroom facility.

In exchange the developer is requesting that the City agrees to allow them to permanently re-contour a portion of the City-owned parcel at the southern end of the Project Site to be used for soil spoils from lots. This area was previously graded in anticipation of locating the Art and Garden Center building at that location. The re-contouring of the site will restore the adjoining open space to its more natural state.

SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH ONLINE SURVEY

The Board of Trustees of the Orinda Union School District is beginning the process of searching for a new superintendent and has asked the firm of Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA) to help the Board with the process.

As one of the initial steps in the process, the Board is seeking input from all stakeholders on the desired characteristics and skills that they would like to see in the next superintendent. Interested parties can share their thoughts by responding to the survey link below.

Survey responders should remember that all characteristics listed in the survey are desirable, but the school board is interested in knowing about which characteristics are "most important" for the Orinda Union School District.

Accessing the anonymous survey:
  1. Click on the link www.ecrasurvey.com/orinda
  2. Identify stakeholder group
  3. Follow the directions on the survey

The Board of Trustees appreciates all responses.  Board members, along with Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates, look forward to learning all perspectives.

Input is also welcomed at the November 9th School Board meeting when HYA presents their leadership profile report to the Board.

CITY OF ORINDA
2015 PAVEMENT REHABILITATION
and the Lamorinda School Bus Program

The City of Orinda has authorized construction of a  pavement rehabilitation project that is located at various streets throughout the City.

Construction is scheduled to begin on Camino Sobrante, from La Espiral Road around to La Espiral Road, on Monday, November 2, 2015, and continue thru Friday, November 20, 2015, with working hours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday.

The work being performed is concrete work, full work reclamation, grading, paving & striping.  There will be traffic delays associated with this work of up to 5 - 10 minutes, including potential detours to and from adjacent side streets and driveways.

Route 12 afternoon bus from Wagner Ranch Elementary and OIS will be impacted.

Please expect delays in the afternoon for the duration of the project.
For OIS students - please expect significant delays as OIS is the third (and last) bus run in the afternoon.  If your student must be home (or somewhere else) by a specific time during the construction period, we advise parents to pick up students at school or make other arrangements.

If you are a resident of the area, please park on nearby streets not designated for construction on the same day if you cannot afford to be delayed, or if you object to driving through construction zones.  Access throughout the construction zone will be limited.

If possible, please avoid the construction zone during working hours.  Regular services, such as garbage or postal service, will continue as usual. You will be provided additional notification should there be a need to interrupt or reschedule such services.

If you have any questions; please call the City of Orinda's Construction Manager, Mike Schaaf @ (925) 548-0895, or RJ Roach, Bay Cities Paving & Grading, Inc. @ (925) 383-0037.

Your patience is greatly appreciated.

2015 Annual and Measure J & L Pavement Rehabilitation Project
This week Bay Cities Paving & Grading cement-treated Charles Hill Road, Miner Road and Kite Hill Road. Final asphalt was placed along Charles Hill Road and the first lift of asphalt was place along Miner Road. Next week, the contractor will place final asphalt on Miner Road and Kite Hill Road and will start pulverizing and preparing base along Camino Sobrante. Due to the length of Camino Sobrante, the work on this street is expected to last two weeks approximately. During that time, the roadway surface will be gravel, then a compacted cement treated surface, and finally a new black asphalt pavement. The contractor has also built ADA curb ramps, replace damaged curb and gutters and set up monument re-establishment at other locations.

Miner Road
After these three roads are completed,
construction activities will relocate to Mira Loma Road and Canon Drive.
Miner Road
Due to the narrowness of these roads, vehicular traffic will be restricted out of the immediate construction area. Residents may need to park outside of the construction area and walk some distance in order to use their vehicles during active construction work. Notifications are being sent to residents about possible access restrictions.

Traffic Safety Advisory Committee
The Traffic Safety Advisory Committee (TSAC) recently approved another traffic calming request to proceed with the neighborhood meeting phase. On November 12th the residents along Orchard Road have been invited to a neighborhood meeting will be held at the Community Center. Various traffic calming measures will be discussed and considered, which may include speed cushions and turn restrictions off Moraga Way and Glorietta Blvd. Neighbors along each road will be notified of the meeting by mail, and the greater neighborhood area will be informed about the meeting utilizing NextDoor.

Parks and Recreation

Annual Halloween Parade
The Orinda Community Center Park was full of Halloween spirit on October 29. Tots and their guardians arrived in costume ready to walk around the park with Glenda the Good Witch during the Annual Halloween Parade for Tots. Police Chief Mark Nagel, Orinda Firefighters and Parks and Recreation staff handed out stickers, note pads, firefighter hats, and more. After the parade there were fun Halloween crafts, cookies, and juice for
the tots to enjoy.

Seasonal Park Maintenance
As part of the City's Park and Sports Field maintenance program, fall aeration and fertilization has begun at Orinda Sports Field, Pine Grove Park, Field 3 at Wilder Park, Orinda Oaks Park and the Orinda Community Center Park. The hope is to take advantage of any rain fall within the next few weeks by collecting extra rain water and additional nutrients down into the roots of the grass.

Additionally, the City has continued an extensive mulching project throughout the Wilder Sports Field complex in the planter beds and parking medians. There are many benefits to mulching including these three basic functions: reducing soil water losses, suppressing weeds, and protecting against temperature extremes. Mulching can also improve soil structure in several ways.

AED's Now Available at Sports Fields
City of Orinda sports fields have recently become a safer place for all athletes' because new automated external defibrillator units (AED's) have been installed. A huge thanks to the Orinda Park and Recreation Foundation for donating these AED's which can now be found at Orinda Sports Field, Pine Grove Park and Wilder Sports Fields.

I'm a Park and Rec KidSM
City staff are Park and Rec Kids too. Recently, Facility and Park Supervisor Steve Ehrhardt shared why he's a Park and Rec Kid. To watch his video click here. We would love to hear your story, share it with us by simply stating #ImAParkAndRecKid and #OrindaParksRec in your post.

The Orinda Parks and Recreation Department is accepting the challenge from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA)to share their "Park and Rec Kid" stories. The goal is to inspire individuals of all ages to use their community parks and recreation as a solution for happier, healthier lives.
