Ivy Drive and Coral Drive Projects

The Ivy Drive Pavement Rehabilitation project, under contractor Bay Cities Paving & Grading Inc. (BCPG), and the Ivy Drive and Coral Drive Sidewalk Improvement projects, under FBD Vanguard Construction, Inc. (Vanguard) continued construction this week. Vanguard completed the sidewalk construction along the north side of Coral Drive, between Ardith Drive and Eastwood Drive. Next week Vanguard will address punch list items and cleaning along Coral Drive.  BCPG finished cold planning and subgrade preparation along Ivy Drive, between the northern intersection of Moraga Way and the northern intersection of Fiesta Circle. BCPG will begin the placement of hot mix asphalt next week. The work hours are from Monday to Friday from 7:00am to 5:00pm.   Expect minor delays or road closures in the area, including some dust and noise from the construction work. These projects are funded by federal grants and local gas tax funds.

Southwest Area Transportation Committee (SWAT)

At the most recent SWAT meeting, the committee reviewed the 2017 Draft Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) projects list for the SWAT sub-region.  The list presents a draft 23 year financially constrained projects list. SWAT reviewed and approved the list and it will be sent to the Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA).  SWAT also considered a draft proposed list of projects to be included in the Transportation Expenditure Plan which the CCTA is bringing forward for a possible 2016 transportation sale tax ballot measure.

Bike Lane Enhancement Along Northbound Camino Pablo at

Westbound Hwy 24 On-Ramp

The City recently installed new bike lane striping along Camino Pablo in conjunction with our recent repaving project. The new striping included the installation of a bike lane along northbound Camino Pablo starting at the entrance/exit to the BART parking lot, extending between a right turn only lane and through/right turn lane onto westbound Hwy 24, until the intersection of Santa Maria Way. The bike lane was installed to provide more awareness to motorists of the presence of bicyclists in the area and to notify bicyclists to transition from the far right lane to the center lane before the right turn only lane drops onto the freeway. This section of Camino Pablo is a difficult section for cyclists to navigate due to the double free right turns. The City is looking at long term options to eliminate the double right lane on-ramp to improve the overall safety of this area with CALTRANS. In the interim, we are trying to improve the existing safety of bicyclists with the installation of the bike lane. On Monday, July 20th, the Traffic Safety Advisory Committee approved a recommendation to install dashed green paint within the bike lane to bring more attention to this conflict zone. This updated design and recommendation is tentatively scheduled for the City Council meeting on August 18th at 7:00 p.m.

The picture shown is a graphic representation of the proposed additional green striping.

Lamorinda's 2015 National Night Out

On Tuesday, August 4th, Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda residents are invited to participate in this year's National Night Out (NNO). NNO began in 1984 as an effort to promote neighborhood camaraderie, police-community partnerships, involvement in crime prevention activities and emergency preparedness.

Our neighborhoods can join the over 37.8 million people across 16,124 communities from all fifty states, in celebration of the 32nd annual National Night Out.

How do you hold a NNO for your neighborhood? Simply find a host and a location for an outdoor gathering of your neighbors in a setting of your choice.  Examples include a block party, pool party, backyard event, potluck, BBQ or ice cream social.

The host should get in touch with their city's Citizen Corps Council (CCC) contact person for more information and support materials such as flyers and questionnaires. Your City contact can also arrange guest speakers from police, fire, city council, and the Lamorinda Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Neighbors can learn about what resources are currently in place and what still needs to be done to keep their neighborhoods and community safe.

Mark your calendars. Whether you are meeting your neighbors for the first time or gathering again for an annual event, camaraderie is important!

For assistance and more information about National Night Out or to get help in organizing your neighborhood event please contact:

Fall Soccer Deadline is Fast Approaching

The deadline to register for Orinda Youth Association (OYA) Fall Soccer is Saturday, August 1st.   Please register soon to ensure your child a spot on a team and to qualify for the regular registration fee.  All registrations received on or after August 2nd will include a late fee.

OYA Soccer is a recreational league in which players are introduced to the fundamentals of soccer and given the opportunity to develop their skills against equal competition. Teams are randomly selected and everyone plays at least half of every game. Practices are once a week and are held on weekday afternoons. Games are played on Saturdays. The U5-U10 Divisions feature small-sided games. Small-sided games help younger players get more involved in each game, sharpen their skills and develop confidence in their abilities. There are separate leagues for girls and boys in each age division.

Practices are one afternoon a week beginning the week of August 31st

Games take place on Saturdays from September 12th through October 31st

We Need Your Help!

Coaches are still needed in all divisions. We invite you to take part in your child's experience by becoming a head or assistant coach. Watch the children on your team develop sportsmanship, improve their skills, make new friends, and have fun. Coaches also receive priority on roster requests. All coaches are required to complete a Live Scan (fingerprinting) procedure. Each coach that completes an online certification training, provided by the National Academy of Athletics, or attends the in person coaching clinic or team camp will receive a 40% refund on their child's registration (limit refund per coach).

If you are interested in coaching, please indicate so on your child's registration form

or online when registering. To register call (925)254-2445 or email tfaulk@cityoforinda.org
