Applications for Orinda City Council Vacancy Available

 

The Orinda City Council is seeking applications to fill the City Council position vacated by Steve Glazer.  The term will begin on the date of appointment and continue through December 6, 2016.  

The Council will be looking for an individual who has a thorough understanding of the issues facing the City and who can demonstrate a history of active civic leadership, community service and engagement in Orinda. In addition to regular Council business, the individual selected must be available to actively participate as a Council liaison to numerous external agencies and organizations as well as Orinda Commissions.

 

Requirements:

  • Must be a resident of the City of Orinda
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to be eligible
  • The application also requires the filing of a Statement of Economic Interest (Form 700) for calendar year 2014

Process:

 

 Interested applicants for the City Council position must:

  1. Submit an application, including a Form 700, by 5:00pm on Monday, July 6, 2015. All applications and supplemental materials will be made available to the public after the application deadline.
  2. Make a 5-minute opening statement and be available for questions at a Special City Council Meeting on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 beginning at 6:00pm.
  3. The City Council will consider all applications and may make an appointment at the July 15, 2015 Special Meeting or at a subsequent meeting prior to the July 27, 2015 deadline
  4. The new City Councilmember would tentatively be sworn into office at the July 21, 2015 City Council Meeting

Camino Pablo Pavement Rehabilitation - The paving and striping work along Camino Pablo is now complete. We would like to thank everyone for their patience during this construction of this phase of the project. The contractor is completing the signal loop connections over the next couple of weeks. Then there will be a suspension in the project until the fall when the new signal poles and associated signage will be fabricated and delivered to complete the signal pole upgrades at the Santa Maria Way and Brookwood Road intersections.

  

Community members are invited to bring their families and friends to the 

Orinda Community Park for summer entertainment starting in June. 

These events are free and open to the community. 

Families are encouraged to bring their blankets and lawn chairs.

The Concerts in the Park, which are sponsored by

 the Orinda Parks and Recreation Foundation and supported by the 

Orinda Community Foundation, Rotary Club of Orinda and City of Orinda,

Movies in the Park begin on June 25 at dusk in the Orinda Community Park with Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. This is a family friendly comedy rated PG about a young boy and his family experiencing one very bad day. Summer Movies will run every other week concluding on August 20 with a community favorite the Frozen Sing-a-long.    

Movies in the Park are back for a second consecutive year and are presented by the Orinda Parks and Recreation Foundation with support from the Orinda Community Foundation. The movies will be held Thursday evenings and will begin at dusk. Below is the movie schedule for this year:

June 25: Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

July 9: The Boxtrolls

July 23: Big Hero 6

August 6: Maleficent

Moraga Orinda Fire District Heartsaver CPR and AED Training  

City staff along with members of the community participated in
Heartsaver CPR and AED training. 
Staff members currently undergo training every two years
to stay up-to-date on new techniques. 


It is a known fact that the initiation of early CPR has proven to increase the survival rate of patients who suffer a cardiac arrest.  The combination of community CPR, early defibrillation and advanced life support has been proven to save lives.  The District offers Heartsaver CPR and First Aid training to the residents of the Moraga and Orinda communities, which are approved by the American Heart Association.

Summer is Here!

   

Summer concerts at the Orinda Community Park kicked off on Tuesday night with a bang! DND Band performed with food available from Street Dogs food truck, Loards Ice Cream and We Be Poppin' kettle corn. You will not want to miss next Tuesday night when Kenya B Trio (Blues & Jazz) will be performing and food will be available from Adorubowl food truck, in addition to Loard's Ice Cream and We Be Poppin' kettle corn which will be at every concert this summer. The Orinda Summer concert series runs every Tuesday, concluding on August 11, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Orinda Community Park located at 28 Orinda Way.

Brush Up on French and Italian before Your Travels  

 

French for Travelers and Italian for Travelers are two summer-time course favorites! Join Nicole Collins in this fun class that will help you prepare your vocabulary, expressions, pronunciations and questions in order to make your vacation more enjoyable. If you're not planning to travel, come to dust off and practice your language skills! These 5-week courses begin the week of June 22. Orinda Community Center Boiler Removal

   

This week the City started the removal process of the steam boiler that was put out of commission in January of this year. Orinda contracted with Alliance Environmental Group, Inc. to remove the boiler that is located in the basement mechanical room of the Community Center in addition to two heaters located in Community Center classrooms. The City followed appropriate OSHA procedures during the demolition process. The project is expected to be completed by Friday evening.

88 Sunnyside Lane: Staff met with the property owner's representatives to discuss our comments on their conceptual subdivision plan.  The conceptual plan proposes a four lot subdivision of the 24+ acre site.

 

Southwood Valley Subdivision: Owners of the 43-acre Southwood Valley site met with staff to discuss submittal of a new application to subdivide the site.  An administrative draft EIR for a 17-lot subdivision was prepared in 2008 when the applicant requested processing of the application stop. 

 

A revised plan will be required to address several fundamental design issues associated with the previous submittal.
