Home Security Audits

A Home Security Audit provides a thorough walk-through of the exterior and interior of a home.  Some outside observations cover the height of bushes, lighting, and types of door and window locks. If you leave your vehicle in the driveway: Do you take your valuables out?  Lock it?  Do you leave your garage door remote in your vehicle?

An inside walk-through includes types of locks for windows and doors, securing your valuables in a safe and keeping your doors and windows locked or secured while you're at home. We also suggest getting a home security alarm and taking advantage of a vacation house check conducted by the police department.   Getting to know your neighbors and perhaps organizing a Neighborhood Watch are all great ways to combat crime.

If you are interested in having a Home Security Audit of your home and property, or if you're leaving town, and would like a vacation house check, appointments can be made by calling the police department at 925-254-6820 during business hours.

Public Works

Camino Pablo Pavement Rehabilitation  -  Pavement grinding has been completed on Camino Pablo between Santa Maria Way and Brookwood Road, and on Brookwood Road between Camino Pablo and Moraga Way. Ghilotti Bros., Inc. is completing base failure repairs and installing new traffic loops. The signals at the Brookwood Road/Camino Pablo/Highway 24 Off ramp and Camino Encinas/Camino Pablo intersections will operate on automatic timers until the installation of new traffic loops are complete. Paving of new asphalt occurred in the evening on May 14th and May 15th.  This week Ghilotti Bros. will be reconnecting the traffic loops, laying out striping, and adjusting utility lids for the entire project limits (Miner Road to Camino Encinas). The final striping will be placed approximately 10-14 days after the final lift of asphalt throughout the project.

Citizen's Infrastructure Oversight Commission (CIOC) -  at the most recent CIOC meeting, the commission discussed the selection of arterial/collector roads to be repaired in 2016, the Draft 2016 Capital Improvement Plan and the upcoming joint meeting with the City Council scheduled for June 10, 2015 at 6:30pm in the Sarge Littlehale Community Room located at 22 Orinda Way. The Commission approved the re-construction of the Ivy Drive from Fiesta Circle south to Moraga Way as the 2016 Annual Paving Program project which uses revenue from Gas Tax and Return to Source funds from the county .5% sales tax. The Commission then conducted a brief review of the City's draft 2016 Capital Improvement Plan. The final item was a discussion of agenda items for the joint CIOC/City Council meeting scheduled for June. The Commission expressed interest in an agenda discussion item for revising the current Road and Drainage Repair Plan (aka 10 Year Plan).

There's a Workshop for Everyone!

Orinda Parks and Recreation offers many workshops for those of all ages covering a variety of topics such as cooking, home improvement, art, carpentry, babysitting, fitness and more.

Over the weekend artists enjoyed the beautiful weather while painting in the Plein Air Watercolor Workshop. Using the foliage in Orinda's lush green hills as inspiration, painters received personal one-on-one guidance on their artwork by the Instructor, Susan McAllister, to learn different methods of painting clouds, skies, sculptures and greenery during this 3 hour workshop.

To see what upcoming workshops, take a look at Orinda's Activity Guide.
