Camino Pablo Pavement Rehabilitation  -  Ghilotti Bros., Inc. was awarded the construction contract for the Camino Pablo Pavement Rehabilitation project, which is funded by sales tax revenue through the Contra Costa Transportation Authority. Expected duration of the project is between 10-12 weeks. Construction is expected to start within the next two weeks, beginning with concrete demolition around the curb returns and driveway replacements near the Camino Pablo/Brookwood Road intersection. In addition ADA accessible ramps will be installed or upgraded along Camino Pablo at the major intersections of Santa Maria, Camino Sobrante, and Orinda Way. In addition, signal upgrades will be performed at Santa Maria Way and Brookwood Road that will potential cause some minor delays. The final component of the project will be the replacement of asphalt pavement along Camino Pablo between North Lane and Moraga Way. Single lane closures will be necessary during non-commute hours 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday and on selective times on the weekends or overnight hours.

Singing, Climbing, and Jumping...Oh My!

Children ages 1 to 4 years of age experience many changes in their physical, social, emotional and cognitive development. Range-of-movement exploration activities like climbing, hanging, jumping, balancing, and bouncing provide them an opportunity to practice these actions which helps ease the transition through each phase. Circle time with stories and signing will also build listening, memory and vocabulary skills. The City of Orinda's Kindergym program provides children a safe environment to participate in all of these activities while a skilled staff member is always on hand to assist. To find out more about this program, click here. To find out about upcoming classes, turn to page 13 and 14 in the Winter/Spring Activity Guide.

Volunteer Coaches Participate in Coaching Clinic

City of Orinda staff hosted the annual Spring Sports Coaching Clinic on Saturday March 21st, 31 out of 45 volunteer coaches attended, the highest percentage of participation since we began the seasonal clinics exactly one year ago. Topics discussed during the clinic included league structure, rules, rosters, schedules and a 30 minute interactive training regarding mandated reporting. Aaron Locks from the National Academy of Athletics also provided a one hour seminar, presenting topics like practice structure, working with parents, maintaining a fun and learning environment, and injury prevention. Coaches then took the field to get a one hour live training where they learned techniques and drills they can apply to their teams in the upcoming season. Overall we received very good feedback as we strive to increase the value of our seasonal clinics and the impact they have on our coaches.
