Citizens' Infrastructure Oversight Commission (CIOC) - Last week at the CIOC regularly scheduled monthly meeting, the CIOC received comments from the residents on Los Amigos Court and on Meadow View Road (east side of Glorietta) on the condition of the roads and a request that they be repaired as soon as possible.  The Commission then began the initial review and discussion of the roads that will be repaired with the next $6 million of Measures J & L funds in 2016. This was the first of several discussions with the goal being to have a final list in August.  The next  CIOC meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 6:30pm in the Sarge Littlehale Community Room, City Hall, 22 Orinda Way, Orinda, CA 94563.

 Red Watch Band Movement

On February 28th the Orinda Teen Advisory Council partnered with Rx Safe Lamorinda to hold a Red Watch Band Training event; the movement is designed to end alcohol and prescription drug overdose deaths. The training involved role play, dispelling common myths, and CPR/1st Aid techniques in order to teach students how to react and prevent a situation from becoming fatal.  The training culminated with a test on the material. All teens who attended the training from all around the Lamorinda area passed the test to become Red Watch Band Certified. Participants from Orinda were recognized at the March 3rd Orinda City Council Meeting for completing the training.

Recently Renovated Just for Teens

The Teen Space inside the Orinda Library has been renovated and is now open. Last week Orinda Teen Advisory Council (OTAC) was on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the unveiling of this new space. In May of 2014 OTAC worked with Orinda Library staff to collaborate on what would make this space most desirable to teens and what they would like to see changed. It was fun for our members to see their ideas come to fruition nearly 10 months after giving their input. Some of the upgrades include new furniture complete with retractable table tops for homework and charging ports, skateboard deck wall art, as well as new carpet and paint.

  Searching for Candidates

Recreation Staff attended the annual Diablo Valley College Job Fair to recruit potential staff members to work at one of three city run summer camps on March 4. The three-hour event featured over 50 employers and hundreds of prospective students eager to make inroads in the workforce. If you or anyone you know are interested in applying for a summer camp position, applications can be found on our City's Human Resources page, click here. Get your applications in as quickly as possible!

You've Been Tricked

The City of Orinda offers many Bridge classes at the Orinda Community Center. This trick-taking game can be played using a standard card deck. Even though this game is very complex, it is extremely popular worldwide. Carol Griffin, one of two Bridge Instructors at the Community Center, is an accredited ACBL 'Star' and an ABTA 'Master' teacher as well as a Silver Life Master player who loves the game. To find out more about some of her classes, click here. For more information or to register, call the Orinda Community Center at (925) 254-2445.
