Lamorinda Wrestling, New to Orinda Parks & Recreation
New this winter to the City of Orinda is the Lamorinda Wrestling Club. This program is designed to teach children ages 6 to 14 the fundamentals of wrestling including attacking, defense, counters, and escapes while also instilling the values of hard work, humility, self-discipline, confidence and respect. Program Director Chris Harrick is the grandson of legendary hall of fame wrestling Coach Steve Harrick. Currently there are two classes that meet twice a week with a total of 23 children enrolled. We are happy to have added this program and excited to see it develop over time. More information can be found at www.lamowrestling.com.
Thursdays Together, Specialty Days
Every week you can drop-in for free at the Orinda Community Center, Room 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for games, a chat, or to meet new people. Twice a month Thursdays Together will have a special activity planned. Here's what's coming up: January 29, Learn to play Mah-Jongg; February 12, Valentine Making; February 19, Learn to Play Mah-Jongg. Thursdays Together welcomes those 50 years and older.
Sports Field Maintenance
Annual maintenance was performed on Wilder sports fields 1 and 2. The first step was an initial thorough inspection of the fields to maintain a consistent playing surface and was followed by removing large debris items. Next a drag brush was used to reduce uneven wear patterns and deviations that could lead to injury. This was followed by brush vacuuming which removes the smaller debris, dead fibers, and most importantly airborne particulates such as dead skin and bio-contaminates. An additional magnetic sweep picked up any loose metal hazards such as bobby pins or barrettes. To finish off the job, the field was sprayed with a neutral disinfectant which will help to eliminate bacteria.
Recreation and Summer Camp Fair

The Parks and Recreation Department is busy planning the first Recreation and Summer Camp fair. The event will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 10:00am to 1:00pm, will provide adults the opportunity to meet summer day camp staff and specialty class instructors. All registrations completed during the fair for classes listed in the Winter/Spring Activity Guide and Summer Camps brochure, will receive 10% off all fees. Please visit Orinda's Parks & Recreation Facebook page to share the event with friends and to be entered into a raffle.

County Connection Launches
Mobility Management Pilot Program
Sales tax and Freedom grants fund expanded transit service options for Contra Costa County
County Connection's Board of Directors recently authorized a pilot program to grow mobility management in Contra Costa County in partnership with Senior Helpline Services to better align and optimize regional and local transit resources to community mobility needs. The concept of mobility management, which offers a full range of well synchronized mobility services within a community, is a growing trend in the public transportation sector. Senior Helpline Services will spearhead cooperative regional transportation planning by first developing an inventory of available services from transportation entities, expand and standardize travel training, expand transportation information and referral programs, and develop a coordinated vehicle maintenance program.
