Maria Duazo is a Hazardous Materials Specialist and emergency responder with the Contra Costa County Health Services Department and often takes the role of Public Information Officer for the agency. She conducts hazmat programs on chemical safety and is an outreach instructor with the California Specialized Training Institute. Maria is also a past recipient of the California Fire Marshal's Instructor of the Year award.

Orinda Ballet Wins Gold Medal Award from Bay Area Parent Press

 

 

From December 12-14 in the Orinda Library Theater the Orinda Ballet Academy held their annual Nutcracker performances. Over 100 local children performed the holiday classic for five sold out performances.  In addition, the Orinda Ballet Academy was awarded the 2014 Gold medal for "Best Ballet Classes in Contra Costa County" by the Bay Area Parent Press!   Click here for additional information on this achievement!
 

 Bring in the New Year by Saving a Life

 

Thinking about giving back in 2015? Consider giving back to the American Red Cross by donating blood or platelets this New Year.  The City of Orinda's Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a blood drive with the American Red Cross on Wednesday, January 7, 2015.

 

The drive will be held in the Orinda Community Center Founder's Auditorium located at 28 Orinda Way, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Individuals who are interested in donating are encouraged to schedule an appointment online though donors do not need an appointment to participate. To schedule an appointment, donors may visit redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code Orinda or may call 1-800 RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

 

Sincere Thank You to Orinda Community Foundation for Awarding Funding

 

The Parks and Recreation Department would like to extend a sincere thanks to the Orinda Community Foundation for awarding $11,550 in grants to provide park and recreation services in 2015. The funding will assist the Department in providing the free concerts and movies, transportation for Senior field trips, Opera in the Park and Teen Movie nights.

Camino Pablo Pavement Rehabilitation - The Camino Pablo Pavement Rehabilitation project is moving forward. The project was awarded in November to Ghilotti Bros., Inc.  During the pre-construction meeting, the contractor was given a notice to proceed in mid-January 2015. The construction begin with signal and signage work at the Camino Pablo intersections with Santa Maria and Brookwood roads, then proceed with pavement grinding and overlaying with new asphalt along Camino Pablo between Moraga Way to just north of Miner Road. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed in late March/early April 2015.

 

Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA) Measure J Checklist - Every two years the City is required to update its activities and compliance with the provisions of the Countywide Sales Tax Measure J to receive our annual share of the countywide sales tax dollars. On Wednesday, December 10, City staff presented the Measure J Checklist to the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) of the CCTA for review. After a brief discussion the CAC approved the City's Checklist. The Checklist now go to the CCTA's Planning Committee on January 7, 2015 and then to the Authority Board January 21, 2015 for final approval. Approval of the Checklist will release the City's FY2013/2014 tax allocation of $492,644. This allocation is used to fund the annual pavement program for repairing arterial and collector roads.

This includes policies that serve pedestrians, persons with disabilities, bicyclists, motorists, emergency vehicles, movers of commercial goods, and those who use public transportation. - Approved to recommend to City Council

  • 19 Wilder Road - A 4,295 adjusted square foot two-story single-family home with an elevated deck in the Wilder  subdivision
  • 23 Wilder Road - A 2,427 adjusted square foot two-story single-family home in the Wilder subdivision
  • 25 Wilder Road - A 2,411 adjusted square foot two-story single-family home in the Wilder subdivision
  • 27 Wilder Road - A 4,919 adjusted square foot two-story single-family home with an elevated deck in the Wilder subdivision
  • Wilder Subdivision - Revisions to the Landscape Master Plan (LMP) for the Wilder Subdivision. The LMP provides a landscaping framework for the development and is used to guide the preparation of final landscape plans. The revisions will alter the placement, size and number of trees on individual lots and clarify the type and number of trees on back of slope easements within the development.
