The Orinda Satellite Rotary Club crew enjoyed working with Eden Housing staff on the project to welcome the new Monteverde residents. Along with the preparation of the welcome baskets and 6 carts for shopping and laundry, Rotarians delivered the baskets to residents.

Seniors Around Town Celebrates 10 Years of Service

On Monday, December 8, Parks and Recreation staff attended the Seniors Around Town's holiday celebration. This year was the 10 year anniversary of their service! Riders and volunteer drivers enjoyed time together outside of their cars and were surprised by Miramonte High School's Choir who sang several holiday favorites. The Orinda Association makes this senior rider service program possible and aids many seniors in the community by easing the stress of transportation by taking them to appointments and ultimately helping seniors stay in their homes. Volunteer drivers are always needed. For more information on this program or to volunteer, visit http://orindaassociation.org/seniors-around-town/.

Planning Department

Amendment to the Circulation Element of the General Plan

Consistent with the Complete Streets Act of 2008 and to be eligible for funding through MTC's One Bay Area Grant (OBAG) program, Planning Department staff prepared a draft amendment to the Orinda General Plan to incorporate the "Complete Streets" concepts of State law.  The Planning Commission reviewed the draft General Plan amendment at its November 12 and December 11, 2014 meetings and passed a resolution recommending Council adoption of amendments to the Circulation Element of the General Plan.  The Commission's recommendations will be presented to the City Council for consideration at its January 13, 2015 meeting.

As recommended by the Planning Commission, the General Plan will include guiding and implementing policies to plan for a "transportation network that meets the needs of all users of roads..." Dubbed "Complete Roadways" (to account for the fact that Orinda has roads, lanes, ways, caminos, etc. and no "streets") the proposed policies state that the City will plan transportation projects to include features such as bicycle lanes, pedestrian paths, crosswalks, sidewalk bulb-outs, and public transit facilities, as determined by the City Council in its sole descretion to be contextually appropriate and feasible.
