Public Works and Engineering Services
2014 Paving Project
The 2014 Pavement Rehabilitation project will begin soon. Staff held a pre-construction meeting with the contractor, Ghilotti Bros., and the consultant construction manager, Park Engineering. The anticipated start of construction is August 4th, 2014. Ghilotti Bros. is finalizing their schedule for the sequence of work on the various roads. Once the City has a preliminary schedule we will provide the information on our website with a schedule that will show when each street is likely to be rehabilitated. The contractor will post signs and send out notices to residents in the area during the week leading up to construction work on a specific street. Staff is negotiating the addition of paving work to the contract for Charles Hill Road and Lost Valley Road, including placing funding signs that promote your Measure L dollars at work. The overall project is expected to be completed in mid-October.

From the Desk of Police Chief Nagel
Please see the chart below which provides a graphical representation of residential burglaries in the City of Orinda for the past year. This time last year, the residential burglaries were at an all-time high of eleven in June 2013 and decreased to a low level of two at the beginning of the year. However, that number has slightly increased to where we are now experiencing approximately one residential burglary per week. Since February 2014, the Orinda Police have been utilizing Nixle and Nextdoor in an effort to collaborate with the community and help residents become aware of the methods burglars are using to take property. We have noticed an increase in calls and emails relating to suspicious people, vehicles and circumstances which will ultimately help in reducing the number of residential burglaries.
