HOUSING ELEMENT WORKSHOP

The City hosted the second public workshop on July 9th regarding the State mandated Housing Element update. About 50 members of the community attended the open house and gave input to the Housing Element update. As stated by one community member: "The key take-away is that the City's current zoning complies with State law and no zoning changes are required for the Housing Element update." The City Council will hear a status report on the update at the July 15th Council meeting which begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Library Auditorium. The public is encouraged to attend and provide comment on the Housing Element update.

"The Nation's 2nd Friendliest City"
Orinda's Hometown Parade

July 4th is an Orinda tradition started by the Orinda Association in the early 1980s as a way to celebrate not only Independence Day, but also to celebrate "community" and this year was no exception!  Citizens gathered to not only watch or participate in the parade, but also attend the numerous other events available throughout the day. On July 4th the day began with events for every age group starting with the annual Pancake Breakfast, flag raising ceremony, fun run, parade, live music, food, games and booths in the park following the parade.

Take a look at the fun, see you next year!!

"The Nation's 2nd Friendliest City"

From the Desk of Police Chief Nagel

The Orinda Police Department has recently received numerous inquiries from the community about the feasibility of installing cameras at various locations around the City solely as a method to thwart residential burglaries. The only information that the cameras would be to capture is license plate numbers of suspect vehicles driving through our neighborhoods providing a lead for investigators to follow. There are numerous instances when there are no leads due to various reasons. For example, no witnesses, absence of home security camera footage, burglars wearing gloves and not leaving fingerprints. the installation of security cameras have the ability to fill this gap and could lead to a suspect and help detectives identify who is responsible.

The Orinda Police Department is interested to know residents' thoughts on the use of video cameras in the neighborhoods. Please email Chief Mark Nagel at mnagel@cityoforinda.org with any comments. Thank you.
