Housing Element Workshop
The City hosted the first of a series of public workshops on June 26th regarding the State mandated Housing Element and the accompanying Environmental Impact Report (EIR). This workshop was attended by approximately 50 participants. The format of the workshop included a presentation with the intent to establish a baseline understanding for all attendees about the State mandated requirements, the process, and the timeline for completing the Housing Element update. The second part of the workshop included an open house with 6 stations set up for attendees to have more focused discussions and to provide input regarding the Housing Element. Attendees adjourned to the open house portion of the workshop where they had the opportunity to interact with the consultants who are preparing the Housing Element and the EIR and to meet with City Planning staff as well.
If you were unable to hear the presentation or unable to attend the workshop, then we invite you to click here to access the information presented during the public meeting.
Please plan to attend a second workshop / open house on July 9th at 6:00 p.m. if you were not available to come to the June 26th session.

Summer Camps are a smashing success!
Last week marked the beginning of the City of Orinda summer camp program. From June 16-20, 140 children participated in 13 different camps including Camp Orinda, Orinda Kids Camp, art, carpentry, chess, Frozen musical camp, princess adventures dance camp, and Sound of Music theater camp. These are just a small sample of what we have to offer this summer at Orinda Parks and Recreation. Other exciting camps being offered this summer include ouTEENs camp (teen trips), Orinda Nature Camp, filmmaking, cooking, science and a wide variety of sport specific camps. Stop by the community center or view our activity guide online for a complete list of camps.
Moonlight Movies in the Park
The premiere of "Moonlight Movies in the Park" is only two weeks away. The opening of our Moonlight Movies in the Park series begins on July 10. Bring your chairs, blankets, and favorite movie foods to Orinda Community Park to sing along with your favorite characters from Frozen.

The Orinda Police Department (OPD) and the Moraga-Orinda Fire District ask everyone to avoid all fireworks activity this summer. Besides the inherent danger in handling fireworks and the negative impact of noise on neighbors and especially on pets, current fire conditions are extremely dangerous and an errant firework can destroy lives and property. Fireworks are illegal in Contra Costa County.
If you see anyone with fireworks, please call OPD immediately at 925-254-6820 to report.
