Spring Sport Season Ends, but still time to register for Fall Soccer: The beginning of June marked the closing of Orinda Youth Association (OYA) spring sports. This year OYA T-Ball, Incrediball and Softball had a combined 27 teams and 328 participants. Our developmental soccer league, which runs exclusively on Sundays and consists of a 30 minute practice followed by a 30 minute game each week, had 22 teams and 209 participants. In all, OYA had 537 children participating in our sports programs this spring, 74 more participants than OYA spring sports last year. Fall soccer is right around the corner with practices beginning in August; register your child today to get in on the fun!

Public Works

Citizens' Infrastructure Oversight Commission (CIOC):  Last week, the CIOC played to a packed house when they discussed street selections for the Measure J funds and a recommendation to City Council to expand the repair work on Lost Valley Drive and Charles Hill Road.   The first item was to discuss how roads should be selected for repair with Measure J, which for 2015 will amount to approximately $5 million. The Commission provided City staff with ideas that could be incorporated into the selection. The Commission also received input from several members of the public. Staff will return to the next meeting in July with the data requested and recommendations on how to move forward.

The second item was a Commission recommendation to City Council to award the 2014 Paving Project construction contract to include the base bid, the two alternate bids and to increase the length of the projects on Lost Valley Drive and Charles Hill Road. As a result of the low bid, a partnering opportunity with EBMUD on Charles Hill and increased Measure L revenues it is now possible to repair more of each road. Several residents of Lost Valley and Charles Hill spoke in support of the recommendation and to encourage the CIOC and City to continue to finish repairing each street in 2015. The Commission then passed a motion recommending the Council to approve the paving contract with the alternates and direct staff to negotiate with the contractor to add the additional length.

EBMUD Lunch:  Last week, the Mayor and staff members attended a lunch and briefing hosted by our EBMUD director Katy Foulkes. Ms. Foulkes and members of EBMUD staff presented updates on current water availability, conservation measures, major projects and system upgrades.
