Parks & Recreation

The Parks & Recreation Department has installed an electronic class schedule and marquee for Community Center visitors to view upcoming events, information and class locations for the day. The marquee is located directly above the registration counter in the lobby.  Guests have provided positive feedback regarding this new feature and the department looks forward to using this great resource.

The Spring/Summer Activity Guide should be arriving in mailboxes on Friday, March 21. Registration is now open for programs and classes which run from mid-April to August.

Spring is in the air and the parks are in bloom!

It feels like picnic season, Orinda Oaks Park and Wilder Park are open to reserve for barbeques and parties. The Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting picnic rentals at the Orinda Community Center Park Gazebo picnic area. Make reservations now for your next event!

"The Nation's 2nd Friendliest City"

From the Desk of Police Chief Nagel

As you may be aware, many cities in the Bay Area have been victimized by burglars posing as utility workers in order to gain access to their homes. Nefarious individuals will attempt the same ruse in this community, and I want Orinda to be well advised and prepared.

The most recent cases have multiple men and women approaching a residence holding clipboards, wearing reflective vests, driving official looking vehicles with tool attachments in order to catch people off guard. One individual will approach the front door while partners in crime will walk to the back. While speaking to (distracting) the homeowner at the front door, entry is made at the back of the house and items are stolen. Or, the fake utility worker will make up a story insisting the homeowner leave the premises for some "emergency" such as broken water pipes, gas leaks, or a neighbor's house is flooding.

If you have not been advised by a utility company in advance of a visit, or you are asked to leave your home unsecured while they conduct an inspection, please deny access to your house and call the police department. There is nothing wrong with closing and locking the front door while you verify with the utility company of any home inspection.  Be Smart, Be Safe!
