Orinda Police Department Activities

Orinda Police Department arrests include an arrest for violation of probation and under the influence of drugs, an arrest for DUI and an arrest for possession of marijuana.

Crime statistics are currently reported in the Lamorinda Patch, Lamorinda Sun, and News 24/680.

Be Aware and Be Safe

The Orinda Police Department has received several calls regarding solicitors who claimed to be working for a non-profit organization attempting to sell magazines. The City of Orinda Municipal code requires door-to-door solicitors who are not associated with a non-profit organization to register with the police department. We review their backgrounds prior to issuing a permit. The permits must be visible to the public during their canvass. Several of the illegal solicitors were contacted and advised to cease from contacting homeowners. A few homeowners allowed the solicitors into their homes. Please do not open your doors or allow anyone into your home.  Instead, please contact the Orinda Police immediately at 925-254-6820.

A New Twist

The Police Department received a call from a citizen who was contacted by a  someone claiming to be a law enforcement official. The caller advised the citizen he had won a Publisher Clearing House prize, which was being held in a bank in Mexico because money had been stolen and sent to Mexico. The caller requested that the citizen  obtain a wire transfer in order to release the funds.  A second person called a few minutes later and identified himself as Orinda Police Chief Haggard and verified the story. Fortunately, the citizen called the real Police Chief and was advised the phone call was a scam. Do not hesitate to call the Police Department if you receive these types of calls.

Keep an Eye Out

We continued to receive reports from Wilder field regarding auto burglaries. Please do not leave any valuables in your vehicle while you are at the fields. If you see anything suspicious please call the police.

The CIOC also approved the 2015 recommended list of arterial and collector streets that Council will be asked to approve at a future meeting.
