Orinda Night Out

Orinda Night Out 2013 was a rousing success.  Five neighborhoods participated with activities planned to get people out to meet their neighbors and city staff.  Four events were on Thursday, September 12th with visits from police, fire, city manager and the Mayor, and one event was held on Sunday, September 15th with the Fire Department in the  St. Stevens neighborhood.

Police Activity

Orinda Police arrests include, an arrest for violation of probation, commercial burglary.

The Investigation Unit packaged and prepared several cases for the District Attorney. They include a drunk in public, DUI, resisting arrest, and providing false information to a police officer.

Chief Haggard and Officer Cook attended the back to school children's event at Theatre Square. They mingled with all of the smiling faces and handed out stickers, pencils, and coloring books. McGruff the crime dog was there for pictures and was a popular feature.

Officer Schwind made a presentation to a Girl Scout Brownie troop at Glorietta Elementary School. The girls were full of questions and were happy with the goodies Officer Schwind handed out. They gave us cookies for the presentation. They were delicious. All of us at the Police Department would like to thank the Brownies for the treat!

The Sheriff's Office introduced a new records management system on September 9th and 10th.  Like all big computer switchovers, the bugs are being worked out as fast as possible. Between the glitches in the system and the learning curve for all of us, it will be a while before we are all up to speed on its use. It appears to be a much better system and I believe it will aid us with investigations in the field.

I would like to remind everyone the Orinda Police Department offers home audits for burglary prevention. The audits are mostly performed by volunteer Dan Lawrence, who is a former Chief of Police in Orinda. I have received nothing but positive feedback from the home audit program. If you would like schedule an audit, please call the P.D. at (925) 254-6820.
