The Manzanita Bridge replacement project is progressing nicely. Here's a photo of the demolition of the old bridge.

The detour was opened last Friday, and from now through October 15th traffic on Manzanita Drive between Camino Pablo and Acacia Drive will be detoured onto a one-lane temporary road and bridge.

Traffic is controlled with temporary traffic signals at each end of the one-lane bridge and the posted speed limit for this detour road is 10 mph.  Bicycles are allowed use of the detour road and bridge.  Please expect up to 10 minute delays.

This detour bridge and road are needed as part of a construction project to replace the existing Manzanita Drive Bridge with a new bridge.

Police Activity

Orinda Police arrests included 2 arrests for embezzlement, 2 arrests for D.U.I., 2 arrests for providing false ID to a police officer and an arrest for violation of a restraining order.

The investigation unit filed 3 DUI cases and one drunk in public case. They were able to succeed in securing filings on a DUI suspect who had been arrested previously for the same offense and a person who was driving with a suspended license.

A new program called "Home Alone" has been developed by Chief Scott Haggard. Parents leaving a teen home overnight or for the weekend can call P.D. to request a check on the welfare of the child/children by either having an officer drive by to check for teen parties or to knock and check in with the teen. Contact information cards similar to vacation house checks are being printed.

Volunteer Lloyd Pringle announced his retirement this week from the Police Department. Lloyd provided many administrative functions, and on occasion, Lloyd  assisted the detectives with mapping crimes within the City and organizing pawn shop slips.  He has been a wonderful asset to our organization and his wisdom and humor will be truly missed.

Lloyd will be spending his extra time with his lovely wife Vina and their rescue dog Chewy.  He promised to come by for coffee and perhaps he will bring a plate of Vina's world class cookies. Lloyd uses a saying that he coined from a buddy of his long ago; "Thanks for talking to me."  Well Lloyd, thanks for talking to us!!

Protecting your Identity and

Telephone Scams

by Orinda Police Chief Scott Haggard

Having been a victim of identity theft myself on two occasions in the past 5 or 6 years, I sympathize with people and the helpless feeling of being violated that come with these types of crimes. I could point out all of the statistical data about identity theft, but I think we already know it is a huge and growing problem across the country. In both of my cases, use of the internet and internet purchasing exposed me to the thieves. In one case there was a $2,000.00 charge on my credit card at a restaurant in Rome, Italy while I was at work here in California.         Read More
