Public Works

We officially have a detour road!  The Manzanita Bridge replacement project is progressing nicely. Here's a photo of the first car to use the new detour road.

Features include temporary lights, signal systems, striping, k-rail, crash cushions, and signage.

Beginning on Friday, May 30th through October 15th traffic on Manzanita Drive between Camino Pablo and Acacia Drive will be detoured onto a one-lane temporary detour road and bridge.

Traffic will be controlled with temporary traffic signals at each end of the one-lane bridge and the posted speed limit for this detour road is 10 mph.  Bicycles are allowed use of the detour road and bridge.  Please expect up to 10 minute delays.

This detour bridge and detour road are needed as part of a construction project to replace the existing Manzanita Drive Bridge which will be demolished and replaced with a new bridge.

Police Activity

Orinda Police arrests included 2 arrests for D.U.I., 2 arrests for burglary, possession of stolen property, and violation of probation and a Warrant arrest for probation violation.

Several cases including a D.U.I., theft, burglary, probation violation, and a felon in possession of a handgun were filed with the DA this week by the Investigations Unit.

Chief Haggard was interviewed by Laurie Snyder, for an upcoming introduction article in the Lamorinda Weekly regarding his background, management style and short term plans. The Chief plans to attend the Orinda Unified School District (OUSD) leadership meeting later this month to meet the school principals and staff.
Chief Haggard is going to institute a new program (not named as of today) that is similar to a vacation house check, but designed for parents of teens or young adults who will be away leaving the child at home.  The parents can call in advance of leaving to request PD either knock or just check to ensure a teen party is not happening or forming.  Details of the program and the information required are still under development.

CERT Monthly Meeting Notice

On Monday evening, June 10th at 7PM in the Orinda Library Garden Room, Lamorinda CERT will be hosting it's sixth monthly training of 2013.  The topic for May is "Protecting Your Home from Wildfire".

Chief Randall Bradley will address CERT members to identify hazards and reduce risks in the home ignition zone before a wildfire starts. Recent research has led to a greater understanding of how wildland fires ignite homes.   For more information or to sign up to attend the meeting, go to: http://lamorindacert.org/training/monthly-meetings/

Parks & Recreation

The last day of school is approaching quickly and the City currently has over 600 youth and teens registered for camp programs.  New camps include Nature Camp, Summer OuTEENS, Teen Leadership, Fashion Design, and Video Game Design.  To register call 925-254-2445 or go online at www.cityoforinda.org.

The 2013 Winter/Spring (January through April) participants for literature classes at the Orinda Parks & Recreation Department remained consistent from last year. 130 students expanded their knowledge and challenged their brains by participating in one of four literature classes offered.
