 Orinda selects new Police Chief!
Orinda City Manager Janet Keeter announced the selection of Lieutenant Scott S. Haggard from the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff to serve as the City's new Police Chief.
Chief Haggard was chosen after a rigorous process including interviews with a professional oral board and a community oral board, participating in a written exercise and going through multiple one-on-one interviews with the City Manager.
Chief Haggard began his career with the Office of the Sheriff in 1996 and progressed through the ranks serving in many capacities ranging from Field Operations Patrol Supervisor to his recent assignment as Custody Services Facility Commander for the West County Detention Facility.
Chief Haggard holds a Bachelors degree in Psychology from California State University of Sacramento. Upon being notified that he was selected to serve as Orinda's Police Chief, Lieutenant Haggard said "I am honored to be selected as your Chief of Police. I look forward to serving the community to keep Orinda a safe place to work and live".

Police Activity
Orinda Police arrests included an arrest for possession of illegal drugs and probation violation and an arrest for corporal injury of spouse.
The Investigations Unit continues to investigate a child molestation case. There was a burglary case and an assault case filed with the District Attorney. The unit is doing a follow-up investigation on a domestic violence case where the victim was severely injured.
Officers Kevin Mooney and Mike Gray received a thank you card from Daisy Troop 30122. The officers enjoyed doing their presentation to the troop.
Detective Dennison attended and assisted with the Sleepy Hollow Elementary School hostile intruder drill.
Officer Mooney and Deputy Valkanoff hosted a Boy Scout troop in the station and helped the boys earn a merit badge for fingerprinting.

Public Works and Engineering Services 
Manzanita Bridge - Work on the temporary detour is progressing. On Monday, May 20th, there was a one-day closure of Manzanita to allow a large crane to set the temporary bridge. Advance closure warning signs were in place, and a detour route directing traffic to use Miner Road was in place Monday morning.

Parks & Recreation 
Saturday, May 4th marked the start of the Orinda Farmers Market season. Orinda Way between the Community Center and Irwin Way will host a myriad of local vendors who stock the freshest fruits and vegetables. The market will be open from 9 am to 1 pm every Saturday through November 23rd.
