Alumni Association President's Message
|
I'm speaking to you as a Trustee of MBKU and as a proud SCCO alum. This is a time of great change and excitement. Our College has grown into a University, basing its strength on that of SCCO. We're keeping the colors while adopting a new mark. We're building on the compassion of our optometric outreach and launching the Eye Force One Mobile Vision Program. Fresh from a recent 10-year accreditation by WASC, we're gearing up for a December visit leading to the March accreditation by ARC-PA for the Physician Assistant program. Optometry at MBKU will be leading a partnership for future students to be interprofessionally engaged. John Nishimoto, O.D., '87, Vice President and Dean of Interprofessional Studies, received queries about MBKU's plans from many of you last month - he's looking forward to hearing from others, as well. jnishimoto@ketchum.edu. Hope to see you at the reception at Academy!
- Charles Luu, O.D., '86, Alumni Association President, 2013-2015

Eye Force One Wrapped
The silver Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van delivered in the Spring has been branded with a bold purple and gold wrap and sports the new MBKU shield. The Eye Force One Mobile Vision Program, supported recently by Allergan and its Foundation, and by many individuals who have donated at the last two Shared Vision Galas, will be helping 20,000 children and adults each year with screenings, examinations and follow-up care, while educating SCCO students in compassionate vision care.
Pre-Optometry Students Alumni Shadowing Network
The Alumni Association is ready to launch our new Pre-Optometry Students Alumni Shadowing Network. Many thanks to the thirty-four alumni who have already volunteered to spend a few hours with one or more students at their offices. If you are able to share your professional experience and insight with prospective students, we could use some more volunteers from anywhere around the country and in Southern California. The Office of Student Affairs is vetting the prospective students prior to sharing the names of optometrists. Please provide your contact information and address to alumni@ketchum.edu. A larger pool of informed prospective students strengthens the profession. Thank you!
Name Change on Email Addresses
Graduates who have their email addresses forwarded by the University to their non-school email addresses need to inform friends, colleagues and organizations who are currently sending to the "@scco.edu" address to change to "@ketchum.edu" before November 1. Forwarding from the "@ketchum.edu" address to non-school email addresses will continue. EDUCAUSE, the organization that manages educational domains, permits just one ".edu" address per institution, with a six-month window to make the transition. To continue to receive the email messages you want to receive, please make the changes by November 4.
Academy Alumni & Friends Reception It's time to gather in Seattle at the annual Academy SCCO Reception, Friday, October 25, 7:30pm - 9:00pm at the host hotel, the Sheraton Seattle. Top off your evening with desserts and beverages and great conversation with friends. Please RSVP to alumni@ketchum.edu by October 18. Thank you!
