Sophomore Family Newsletter
Dear Class of 2018 Families,

It's officially autumn! Pumpkin-flavored beverages are on the rise at Aromas, leaves are falling on the Sunken Garden, and your student is back in the swing of things here at William & Mary. October brings midterms to W&M students, but the true highlight of the month is Fall Break. Whether your student is coming home, taking a Branch Out alternative break trip, or simply staying in Williamsburg, be sure to remind them that Fall Break is a wonderful time to decompress and take a well-deserved break from academics.

Sincerely,
Terry and Dianne Squire, P'18

Residence Life
Fall brings cooler weather. If your student lives in a building with AC, visit the Housing Contract and click on Air Conditioners to learn about our procedures for shut down in buildings that are not individually controlled.

It's never too early to make travel plans. Find out which breaks the halls stay open and which one we close down for on our website.

Fall is wonderful time for students to attend awesome programs and events in their halls. Residence Life staff offers dozens of programs, on various topics, every week throughout the communities. Encourage your students to take a break and enjoy some hall fun.

Don't forget to like William & Mary Residence Life on Facebook and follow wmreslife on Instagram and Twitter.
Free for Fall Break? Fall Break is free!
Alternative breaks are student-led service-learning trips where students are educated about social issues, partner with a community organization to address that issue, and continue as active citizens in the home community. This Fall Break, Branch Out is offering three trips, all free of cost, to students - focusing on child homelessness in Norfolk, food insecurity and sustainable food systems in Goochland, and re-entry for formerly incarcerated individuals in Richmond. These three-day trips are a great way for students to shift gears, learn and build community with other dedicated students.
Non-W&M Study Abroad Program Registration
Is your student planning to study abroad on a non-W&M program in Spring 2016? The registration deadline for all non-W&M programs is Friday, November 13th. Registration with the Global Education Office is required in order for students to receive academic credit for non-W&M programs. Have questions? Study Abroad workshops are held daily, and the Global Education Office has walk-in hours 11am-5pm, Monday-Friday. For more information, visit our website
Majors, Milk, & Cookies
Demystify the major and career selection decision in this interactive workshop co-presented by Academic Advising and the Cohen Career Center. Here, your student will learn about the thought process behind, as well as the logistical process of deciding on major and narrowing career options through resources and personal interest assessments. We will be available to answer all your questions about majors, minors and the declaration process. Did we mention there will be cookies?
There will be two sessions of this workshop: Wednesday, October 21 at 7:00pm or Tuesday, October 27 at 7:00pm.
