Sophomore Family Newsletter
Dear W&M Families,
Campus may seem calmer this time of the year, but we are hard at work preparing for students to return in August.  The Global Education Office is planning trips abroad,
the Cohen Career Center is expanding their staff to fit your students' needs, and Residence Life is getting the halls ready for your students return.

As for Parent & Family Programs, we are excitedly planning Family Weekend.  This year it will be held Friday, September, 25th, through Sunday, September 27th.  Will you be joining us?  Registration opens early July, so be on the lookout!

As always, thank you for all you do for your students and the College.

Mark Sikes, Ph.D.
Director of Parent & Family Programs

Deep Dive into Community Engagement with Aim 4
Aim 4 is a four year program which fosters students' deepening experience of community engagement and growth as active and educated citizens. Now open to sophomores as well as incoming freshmen, Aim 4 students participate in academic coursework focused on community engagement, direct service with local community organizations, conferences and exchanges with regional universities, and facilitated reflections, while receiving personalized advising and unique opportunities and resources to support their development as active citizens.
Planning for a Semester Abroad
W&M currently offers 20 different exchanges and sponsored semester programs around the world, from Nottingham, England to Adelaide, Australia. If your student is considering studying abroad for a semester or an academic year, summer is a great time to start planning. Have questions? Throughout the summer, the Global Education Office will hold walk-in hours from 11am-5pm, Monday-Friday.
Enroll or Waive your coverage Today!
The College requires all full-time undergraduate and graduate students and all F-1/J-1 international students to have health insurance coverage throughout the school year as a condition of enrollment.  Each academic year, students must either elect to enroll or waive the W&M-sponsored Student Insurance Plan to comply with this requirement.

Please visit Student Insurance for more information.

Cohen Career Center staff is growing!
The Cohen Career Center has been busy filling current and newly-created positions, and will welcome students in the fall with an expanded staff. Virginia Damron started in January in the new position of Assistant Director, Accounting and Finance Careers. Sean Schofield began his position of Assistant Director, Internship Coordinator in May. Chiquita Geldorp will be filling the newly created position of Assistant Director, Marketing Careers in June. Another new position for the career center is Director of Business Careers and Employer Relations, which will be filled by Mike Caldwell in July.
Residence Life Updates
  • Participation in Hall Council is an unmatchable leadership experience offered to all students in housing. Hall Governance and Self Determination define the W&M residential experience. Does your student have what it takes to make a difference?
  • Congratulations to our NRHH of the Year Winners and NRHH Honor Cord Recipients!
  • Fall 2015 Opening is almost here! It is never too early to start planning ahead.
eServices and Student Accounts

Begin the new academic year by being informed and prepared! Check with your student to be sure you are set up as an Authorized User in eServices. This will allow you to receive eStatement notifications, have access to view and pay the W&M student account and enroll in the monthly Tuition Payment Plan.

Restrictive holds will be placed on all W&M Student Accounts that are not paid or covered by financial aid, scholarships or the Tuition Payment Plan on August 4th. This will prevent your student from registering for classes or making any registration changes. Payments can be made in several ways.

Today's the day! June 30 is the last day of the College's fiscal year!

Your gift to the Parents Fund will support the most urgent needs of academic and campus life including the five thematic areas of Student Affairs and student scholarships.

Your gift, no matter the size, supports our students!
