1964 DREUX YEARBOOK UP FOR AUCTION!!

Who would like a 1964 La Victoire Yearbook?

We are auctioning off a 1964 Dreux Yearbook for the highest donation. The yearbook was donated by former faculty member, Gloria Cline. I am sure there are many out there that either didn't get a yearbook that year or through the years it became lost.  Now is your chance to get one.  It still has the plastic cover on it and has not been signed or autographed. It is in pretty good shape considering it is over 50 years old!   See some photos below.

Here is how it will work:

Those interested in bidding on the 1964 yearbook will send an email to Vicki Key with your bid.  That way it will have a date and time stamp on it (central standard time).

The minimum bid will be $50.00.  Bids need to be in whole dollars.  The successful bidder will also be responsible for shipping costs (or if the winner is coming to the Reunion, I will bring it with me to give to the winner)

The bidding will start when this newsletter goes out (3/5/2015) and will continue until 12:midnight (CST) on March 31, 2015.  Not everyone opens their newsletter immediately, so I want to give it enough time so everyone will know about it. I will try to post current bids daily on the Dreux website and the Dreux Group page on Facebook.   We've never done this before, so it will be interesting to see how it goes!

Once the winner has been determined, you will have a couple of ways to make your donation.  Either through the donation button on the Dreux website if paying by credit card through PayPal or by sending a check to our Treasurer.  I will contact the successful bidder and work out the details on shipping, etc.

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

Jon Klein '64

Then

My name is Jon Klein. I attended Dreux from Sept 1963 to my graduation in June 1964. I was not a Military Brat. I was a Diplomats Brat. My father, Burton H. Klein, was a Special Ambassador to NATO. During WWII, my father was a Navigator dropping Paratroopers on D-Day. My father was on the Strategic Bombing Survey Sept 1945. All Air Force Officers are required to read this report. Furthermore, my father was on Truman's Council of Economic Advisors. For many years, he was Head of the Economic Department at the Rand Corp in Santa Monica, California. He finally was a Professor of Economics at Cal-Tech in Pasadena.

After Dreux, I attended UC Santa Barbara and graduated with a BA in European History and a Secondary Teaching Certificate. I next worked at our family's Motel in Santa Barbara and for the new owner for the next 14 years. My next venture was to work for a company named The Game Keeper. It was a chain of Game and Hobby Stores located in malls on the West and East Coasts. In 1999, we were purchased by Wizards of the Coast that manufactured: Dungeons and Dragons, Magic the Gathering and for 5 years manufactured Pokémon Cards. I became an Operations Manager assisting the VP of Retail Operations as well as opening new Game Keeper and Wizards of the Coast stores. Sadly, we were purchased by Hasbro. They purchased us for our manufacturing arm and in 2004 they closed all of the retail stores. My career in Games came to an end.

Now.

I met my wife Alice at UC Santa Barbara. Last December 21, we celebrated our 45th Wedding Anniversary. We have three Great Kids. Our eldest

daughter lives in Toronto with her husband and our two grandsons. Our middle daughter, Lisa, is a nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Our son Joseph, who has a degree in Digital and Motion Picture Production and a Masters in Computer Science, works for a company in Baltimore. By the way, my wife is a three star General. She has worked for General Electric, General Motors and General Dynamics. She was a Software Engineering Manager. For the last 11 years we have lived in Omaha, Nebraska.

What I remember most about Dreux is having a great roommate, Phil Gabler. We have kept in touch for over 51 years! Next, having Mr. Francis' European History Class, including his Fish- Nietzsche. As a hobby, I have collected items from the time of Napoleon. I have a document that Napoleon signed for pensions for 55 solders that died in action. I also have dispatch that Admiral Lord Nelson wrote in July 1803. I cannot forget to mention Apkarian's Economics Club. I thought it was great to take a Club trip by bus to Paris. There we visited Merrill Lynch Brokerage and purchased 5 shares of Studebaker Company to watch its progress over the school year. Also, the guys got to walk through the French Stock Exchange floor briefly.

Alice and Jon will be attending the 2015 Reunion in San Antonio.

NEED BIOS!!

I NEED BIOS!

Thank you to those who have sent in bios for the Alumni Spotlight feature of the Newsletter.  But I need MORE!  In order for me to continue this feature, I really need people to send me bios on themselves!  I think it's a neat feature and hope you all are enjoying reading about your former classmates.  I would like to get bios on folks from all class years.  So if you haven't already been featured, please send me something to use in future newsletters.

It can be as short or as long as you would like, but basically I am looking for the following information:

What you did after you left Dreux, i.e. schools attended, military

What you do/did for a living

Where all have you lived after Dreux

Tell us about your family, hobbies and community involvement, if any

Talk about any special memories you have from your time at Dreux

I would also need a "Now" photo (jpg) of you as well.

Send your bios and "Now" photo to Vicki Key at VickiK3275@aol.com.

A BIT OF THIS AND THAT

UPDATING YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION

COME JOIN US ON FACEBOOK!

The Dreux American High School Group page on Facebook now has 547 members and is still growing.  It's been a lot of fun!  Former friends are reconnecting, uploading photos from Dreux, and having general discussions about the time spent at Dreux.  I have the group as a closed group so that only those people associated with Dreux are involved.  If you are interested in joining us, just use the "request to join" feature on the Group Page or send me a friend request and I would be happy to add you!

If you are on Facebook and have not already joined the group, here is the link to our page so you can join:  Dreux American High School Group Page

We have a very active Alumni Association.  There have been 7 major reunions over the past 18 years, the last being held in February of 2013 in Orlando, FL.  We have found 1,300+ alumni, faculty and staff and are continuing to locate folks!
