Greetings!
I hope that everyone who attended the Dreux Reunion 2013 had a great time. I know I did! It was great to see those that had never attended a Dreux Reunion before, those that had not attended a Reunion since 1995, as well as those who have attended reunions in the past.
We have new Alumni Association Officers! Charles Brantley '68 was elected President and James "Jim" Adams '66 was elected Vice President. Paul Krausman will now serve as Immediate Past President. Doug McPhee was elected to serve as Reunion Coordinator. All other Board positions remained the same. If you are interested in serving on the Board in the future, please let us know! Elections are held at each official Dreux Reunion.

Bio Taken from the Military Order of the Purple Heart website. Bruce now serves as the National Commander of that organization.
Bruce McKenty joined Military Order of the Purple Heart and is a life member of Washington State Chapter 407. Since joining, he has been the adjutant, finance officer and service officer at the chapter and department levels, Department Commander for four terms, National Region III Commander, National Junior Vice Commander and National Senior Vice Commander before being elected National Commander in 2012.
As a member, he discovered one of his greatest passions is being a volunteer service officer for his local chapter, assisting all veterans to receive their rightful benefits from the Veterans Administration and oth

er government agencies. He continues to perform these heart warming duties to this day. He looks forward to working with the current leadership to further advance the mission and goals of the Order.
His military career began in 1970 when he graduated from Texas A&M University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree and his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Field Artillery. Upon entry onto active duty he completed his Officer Basic Course at Fort Sill, OK and then went on to flight school at Fort Wolters, TX, Fort Rucker, AL and AH-1G Cobra transition in Savannah, GA in route to his first assignment, Vietnam. He was assigned to F Troop, 1/9th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division at Bien Hoa as an AH-1G Cobra attack helicopter pilot. During his tour he was wounded twice and has the unique distinction of being one of a small handful of Army helicopter pilots that survived after being shot down with an SA-7 heat seeking missile. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, Two Purple Hearts and numerous Air Medals, with three being awarded for valor. McKenty went on to spend 21 years in the Army serving in various command and staff assignments in the Field Artillery and Aviation, and retired in 1991 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
During his Army career he earned a Master of Science from the University of Southern California in 1984 and in 1986 graduated from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS. After his retirement from the Army McKenty was a general contractor in the greater Seattle/Tacoma area until his final retirement in 2001.
In 2004 he discovered another of his volunteer passions as a volunteer at the local VA golf course. The American Lake Veterans Golf Course located at the American Lake VA Hospital in Lakewood, Washington lost all federal funding in 1995. That year, a group of volunteers petitioned the VA to keep the golf course operating with volunteers and donations. It has not only survived but has blossomed into a beautiful facility and will only get better through the help of volunteers like McKenty. He started and runs the golf course marshal program, is on the Board of Directors and is the project manager for the new 7000 square foot club house and future nine-hole addition, currently being designed by Jack Nicklaus.

Betty Hall Harper '64

Bio taken from Betty's website at www.bettyharper.com
As the daughter of a career military man, I spent my early life frequently on the move. With the constant change that surrounded me, my only constant was my art. By the time I graduated from high school, my journey included seventeen different schools, which provided me with subjects ranging from the Colorado Rockies to the military bases of Europe.
The subject matter of my art varies, encompassing a multitude of places and settings, but my first love will always be faces. No matter the lifestyle or the background, each subject I draw has a story to tell. I use pencils, paints and more recently technology, to capture an intimate glimpse into the life of a person, to see a side of them that most people don't. I make art not so that people can see an image, but so that they can be transported to a different time and place. In similar fashion to my life, I want the viewer to experience a new environment, not simply admire artistic talent.
 | Now |
Over time my skills and style have evolved, and I'm continually learning and evolving with new mediums. I draw inspiration from the people and places of my
travels. I try to capture moments in time that evoke these experiences and express the many and varied types of life that can be found throughout the world.

Come Join Us on Facebook!
In case you are not aware, we have a Dreux American High School Group page on Facebook with 495 members and growing. It's been a lot of fun with former friends reconnecting, uploading photos from Dreux, and general discussion about the time spent at Dreux. I have the group as a closed group so that only those people associated with Dreux are involved. If you are interested in joining us, just use the "request to join" feature on that page or send me a friend request and I would be happy to add you!

Remember that you can now pay your DAHS Alumni Association Dues by credit card! We had lots of alumni asking for this option. Dues are $40/yr and you can pay for one year or multiple years, just as in the past. Just go to our Dreux AHS website at www.dreuxalumni.org and click on the Dues/Donations button. You will then see the PayPal box. You can still pay by check as well if you prefer that method.
If you prefer to pay by check, you can send your Dues payment to: Marilyn Hutto Turner 9831 Marine View Drive Mukilteo, WA 98275
As a perk of paying dues and supporting our efforts, you will receive via email a copy of the latest Dreux AHS Alumni Directory. It's now 94 pages! As always, we appreciate your support in paying dues! It keeps this association going and helps fund the costs to find former classmates, maintain the database, website, newsletters, etc. We can't do it without you! So thanks!
If you are not sure about whether you are current on your Dues, there is a list of those who have paid Dues for 2013 and beyond in the Dues/Donations section of the Dreux website.
NOTE: A major update to the Alumni Directory was completed prior to the Reunion. If you have not paid dues in a while, now would be a great time! |
Past Dreux AHS Newsletters are now available to view!
In case you missed receiving any of the past Dreux AHS Newsletters for whatever reason, they are now archived and available to view on our Dreux AHS website. Just click on the link on the front page of the website to access them.
