FROM THE OFFICE OF BILL HUBER |
IOU DAY will be here soon!
This week I met with the majority of the junior and senior IOU DAY groups discussing their particular activity. After spring break, I will meet with the groups that I missed due to us being off on Friday. All students are required to turn in a permission form to attend their particular activity. Please ask your daughter if she has a permission slip and have her return it to me after spring break.
Letters were mailed today to the freshmen and sophomore parents/guardians regarding IOU DAY and what activities the students will be engaged in that Friday.
Just a reminder that IOU DAY, April 22nd, is considered a regular school day. If your daughter is sick, please remember to call into the office and let the school know.
Thanks!

As many of us participate in Holy Week and Easter services very soon, we may hear this Scripture verse from Matthew 28:5-6, "Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said."
Sr. Melannie Svoboda, SND, writes, "Although we do not fully understand all the implications of the Resurrection, this we do know: Easter celebrates not only Jesus' resurrection, but the resurrection that has already begun in each one of us. Wherever fragile life is cared for, where tears are wiped away, where the lonely are visited, where forgiveness is extended, where a hungry child is being fed, where honesty and integrity abide, where genuine peace is established, where an unjust situation is being made just - all of these are seeds of the Resurrection, seeds of new life. The Resurrection is not only a past event or future event. It is already in process here and now. This is Easter's promise! This is Easter's joy! What else could we say but Alleluia!"
Jesus, help me to notice and to plant the seeds of the Resurrection wherever I go!

IWA Day and Special Awards:
Each year on Incarnate Word Day we celebrate the feast of the Annunciation which commemorates the Blessed Virgin Mary saying "yes" to becoming the mother of Jesus. So this past Tuesday we recognized five women with some special IWA Day Awards. Just like Mary, these Women of the Word continue to say "yes" to living the mission of Jesus.
The Sister Peter Nolasco Keenan Award is presented to a senior who has clearly lived out the mission as expressed in the IWA mission statement: The mission of Incarnate Word Academy is to challenge young women of faith to achieve their God-given potential as academically successful Women of the Word, following the example of Jesus, the Incarnate Word, by promoting human dignity, thereby empowering themselves and others to make a positive impact on our world. Congratulations to Gracie Holloran for receiving the Sister Peter Nolasco Keenan Award.
The Sister Pat Kelley Award is presented to a senior who has contributed to society and school, as Sister Pat Kelley did. She is one who demonstrates IWA's Core Beliefs, particularly following the example of Jesus, promoting human dignity, and making a positive impact on our world. She displays a passion for assisting those who are marginalized and speaks for those who are voiceless. Congratulations to Blair McKee for receiving the Sister Pat Kelley Award.
The Mary Reilly Award is given in honor of the years of service that Mary Reilly gave to IWA as a secretary. The qualities of spirit, support and service demonstrated throughout the year are key qualifications for the recipient.
Congratulations to Ms. Patty Senft for receiving the Mary Reilly Award.
The Archbishop May Service Award is given to a senior who is recognized for her extraordinary achievement in service above and beyond that required by the school. The person selected for this award must be an outstanding example of someone who has demonstrated on and off campus her sincere and never ending desire to assist and serve others. Congratulations to Anna Salmo for receiving the Archbishop May Service Award.
The Lisa Orlet Leadership Award is given to a senior who has shown strong leadership qualities throughout her four years at Incarnate Word Academy. Congratulations to Shannon Groark for receiving the Lisa Orlet Leadership Award.

Muscle Walk:
Students from IWA are invited to participate in the Muscle Walk to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association on Sunday, April 3 in Forest Park. The Muscle Walk is a one-mile, non-competitive, non-athletic, symbolic walk to honor the families affected by muscle diseases, remember those we have lost, and celebrate the strides the MDA has made. All of the money raised from the St. Louis MDA Muscle Walk will benefit research, summer camp and provide aidto those living with muscle disease in our community.

Reminder for all families: Testing day is Tuesday, April 19th. On this day, Freshmen and Sophomores will be taking a full length "practice" ACT (no writing), while the Juniors will be taking an "official" ACT (plus writing). All students are already registered to take these exams, so you will not need to register your daughter for this exam.
We will be hosting the ZAPs Test Prep program here on April 6th & 7th from 3:15 to 5:45 both days. ZAPS instruction has been helping teens raise their scores for more than 30 years. The cost for this 2 day workshop is $84.99. For more information and to register, please click here.

From the Yearbook Moderator
Your Mission: Make sure your daughter has purchased a yearbook this year. Hello, moderator of the yearbook here to tell you that our second sales campaign has begun for purchasing a 2016 IWA school yearbook. The theme of our book this year is "Spy", and the staff is very excited about the overall "look" of the book with all of its spy-like connections and references. Our school yearbook is a priceless heirloom for every Incarnate student as it records so many memories of this year in an impressive and modern design. Further, our yearbooks have won Josten's Award for Excellence the last several years, so we create a product of great quality and value. Price: $70 for 156 full color pages. Due date is March 30, 2016.
Please make out your check to IWA and direct your cash or check to Bryan Villmer. If you have any questions, such as has your daughter purchased a yearbook already, please send them to bvillmer@iwacademy.org.
